The Cowboys are tied atop the NFC East with the Eagles and Giants with a 2-1 mark. But they are not under any illusions that they are playing good football. The Cowboys offense has struggled the past two weeks in a 27-7 loss to the Seahawks and a 16-10 victory against the Buccaneers. The offense has scored just two touchdowns the past games mainly because the offensive line has struggled with penalties, poor pass protection and too much penetration in the running game. The line must be better starting Monday against the Chicago Bears if they Cowboys hope to get things to clicking again on offense. It won't be easy because the Bears have the best defensive front they have faced all season. Their line has accounted for 12 sacks, including three by tackle Henry Melton and 4.5 by ends Israel Idonije and Julious Peppers. "They've got depth," offensive line coach Bill Callahan said. "They rotate guys a pair at a time. They just keep them fresh and keep ...

Cowboys looking to give Jenkins playing time

IRVING Mike Jenkins was a hot topic at Jason Garrett's press conference Thursday at Valley Ranch. The Cowboys coach gave several lengthy answers to questions regarding the recent play of the veteran cornerback. The former first-round pick had shoulder surgery in January, watched the Cowboys spend 50 million in free agency on a starting cornerback and then draft another one...

Cowboys defense bailed out offense in Week 3

As we look at the defense week after week, it is important that we keep a close eye on their progress and while noting that the caliber of opponent and quarterback is a very important consideration, we also don't want to minimize a gradual, but physical domination like we saw against Tampa Bay. The Cowboys took a step back against Seattle, and all week you would think that...

Dallas Cowboys: Week 4 NFL Power Rankings (#10)

Last week: 15 (+5) Record: 2-1 The Cowboys, like the Eagles, can be dangerous if they can ever get their act together. Penalties and turnovers are killing them, but the latter typically evens out over time. They rank 2nd in the league in yards per play differential, including 1st in the league in yards per play allowed. Their defense is much better this season and they’ve done...

Witten not blaming injury for dropped passes

IRVING, Texas Don't blame the uncharacteristically high number of dropped passes on the spleen he lacerated last month or his age. Cowboys tight end Jason Witten doesn't want to hear excuses about why he dropped three passes against the Seattle Seahawks and three more on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "Ultimately, for me, I've been in the right spot, I...

Witten 'crushed' he's not playing better

Tight end Jason Witten wasn't himself during the Tampa Bay game with four drops and two penalties and just two catches for eight yards. Witten made amends for the latter Monday when he talked for 12 minutes, answering questions from reporters about his poor play. He still...
