Dallas Cowboys linebacker Anthony Spencer is set to become
an unrestricted free agent this offseason, but his agent has held preliminary
talks with the team about a new contract, according to Todd Archer of ESPN
Spencer is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in
March. However, the Cowboys and his agent, Jordan Woy, have had preliminary
talks in recent weeks and both sides are hopeful a deal can be worked out.
Archer notes that the Cowboys could elect to once again use
their franchise tag on Spencer, a move that would cost them $10.6 million.
Spencer’s agent said he anticipates contract discussions to continue in
Spencer made the Pro Bowl this season as an alternate,
eventually joining the NFC’s ranks to take the place of Green Bay Packers
linebacker Clay Matthews. He finished the season with 95 tackles, 11 sacks and
two forced fumbles.
