The Dallas Cowboys are still waiting to hear back from Doug Free regarding his contract situation. But that didn't prevent the right tackle from attending Wednesday's annual Cowboys Golf Classic at the Cowboys Golf Club. Free, who did not speak with reporters, took a minute to chat with Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones before posing for a photo, but it didn't appear like they were discussing the 28-year-old taking a pay cut. "We're trying to keep it to where it's not an issue," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "He knows that and we want him here." Free is due to make 7 million during the 2013 season but after he struggled last year the Cowboys would like to reduce that number. Free and his agent Jimmy Sexton haven't agreed to any restructuring but Stephen Jones didn't seem concerned about the right tackle position going forward. "I think we're on the same page with Jimmy and Doug, as far as timing," Stephen Jones said. "We're positive. Hopefully he's positive and we're trying to work through it all." If something is not worked out with Free in the near future, the Cowboys could be forced to cut him and either sign a free agent or start Jermey Parnell, who split time with Free during the last month of the season. "I don't want to speculate," Stephen Jones said. "We're working on getting it worked out with Free." Speaking with reporters at a charity home run derby last week, Free responded, "I don't know anything about it" when asked about taking a pay cut. "Really nothing to talk about, right now," Free said. "There's a lot going on and stuff, but I'm just happy to be here."

Doug Free agrees to cut salary, stay with Cowboys

IRVING, Texas Doug Free moved briskly on Wednesday at Valley Ranch, shifting from the weight room in the morning to the front office in the noon hour to back in the Dallas Cowboys good graces when in the early afternoon he accepted the clubs offer to cut his salary in half. As first reported by FoxSports Southwest, the beleaguered right tackle Free agreed to a reduced two-year...

Jerry Jones' Cowboys Are 'The Cheese That Goes Crunch'

IRVING, Texas Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys are, in the way he peddles his product, "The Cheese That Goes Crunch." For the 24th consecutive year, a hot subject at Valley Ranch is the seeming discord between something Jerry says and something someone else in power (in this case, coach Jason Garrett) says. The subject: Quarterback Tony Romo's supposed "Peyton...

Cowboys’ Sean Lee wont change his playing style to avoid injuries

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee doesn’t plan on changing the way he plays the game of football to help him keep him from getting injured. “I’m going to try to play a certain way, play hard,” Lee said Tuesday during the BaD Radio show on 1310 The Ticket [KTCK-AM], via the Dallas Morning news. “I don’t think I would be successful if I didn’t play that way. I’d rather...

Murray to work on running style with new rules

It's no secret that Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray doesn't mind lowering his shoulder and delivering a blow to opposing defenders. Sometimes that includes Murray driving his helmet into an opponent to get a few extra yards. In March, the NFL Competition Committee passed a rule which will penalize ball carriers for lowering the crown of their helmet outside of...

Paycut should serve as motivation for Cowboys' Free

No one questioned the Dallas Cowboys for giving offensive tackle Doug Free a lucrative, long-term contract in 2011. The former fourth-round pick had been the club's most consistent linemen and other teams were poised to sign him in free agency. It was hard to imagine him completely regressing as a player and ultimately platooning at right tackle with the inexperienced Jermey...

Cowboys keep tackle Doug Free at much lower salary

The Dallas Cowboys have significantly reduced right tackle Doug Free's salary after a difficult season that ended with him as a part-time player. The Cowboys reworked the final two years of Free's contract, and will he make $3.5 million in 2013 instead of $7 million. Dallas probably would have cut Free if the five-year veteran had rejected a salary cut. Free is now set...

Jerry Jones wants Tony Romo to have input on play-calling (you know, the way Roger Staubach did)

A friend recently suggested that I put together a top ten list of Jerry Jones foot-in-mouth statements. That might be fun…and a challenge. Not to find ten candidates but to settle on just ten. Now, we can add another. Another friend, a Twitter friend, put me onto this one. @doomsdaddy editorial opportunity for you, Jones talking about Staubach involvement in game planning and play...

Who Will Be the Dallas Cowboys Play Caller in 2013?

This is the time of year when football season really starts to pick up. Free agency is long gone. The NFL Draft is a memory. Even Rookie Camp has been completed. At this point, we’re looking towards OTA’s, training camps, preseason, and real NFL Football games. if the suit fits, Romo may just be calling plays in ’13 All that considered, it’s a bit concerning that we don...

Ex-Cowboys RB Felix Jones signs with Eagles

IRVING, Texas Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stubbornly refuses to call Felix Jones, the team's 2008 first-round draft choice out of Jones Arkansas alma mater, a "bust.'' The Philadelphia Eagles hope Jones is right. The Eagles have signed Jones to a one year contract, likely to serve as a third-stringer behind Pro Bowl running back LeSean McCoy and backup Bryce...

Dallas Cowboys Sign DL Anthony Hargrove

The Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove. Listed at 6’3″, 272 lbs, Hargrove is big enough to play in the middle but he’s also shown the ability to play on the outside. Over his seven-year career he’s posted 19.5 sacks and 168 tackles. Anthony last saw NFL action in 2011 for the Seattle Seahawks but spent last summer with the Packers. Some of you may...

Cowboys sign DE who was among bounty suspensions

The Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive end Anthony Hargrove, who sat out the 2012 season after he was suspended as part of the New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal. Hargrove, who signed a one-year deal Thursday, got an eight-game ban from Commissioner Roger Goodell after the NFL said the Saints ran a program that paid defensive players improper cash bonuses for hits that injured...

Draft and Offseason Review: Dallas Cowboys

Reports came out after the first day of the draft that Jason Garrett and the scouts were extremely upset with the Cowboys’ decision-making that day. From what I’ve gathered, Garrett and the scouts wanted the team to stay put at 18 and draft Sharrif Floyd, which makes perfect sense even if you don’t think Floyd was a steal there– they need 4-3 players as they make that transition...

Eagles Sign Former Cowboys RB Felix Jones

Here is a Tuesday morning player signing for you. The Philadelphia Eagles have signed former Dallas Cowboys running back Felix Jones to a one year deal. To make room on the roster, the Eagles released WR Marvin McNutt.  Jones is an interesting signing for the Eagles because right now they have a crowded backfield with the likes of LeSean McCoy, Bryce Brown, Chris Polk, and undrafted...
