Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant is closing in on a plea deal related to his arrest on charges that he assaulted his mother, according to 105.3 The Fan radio in Dallas. The radio station reported Friday that lawyers representing Bryant met with the Dallas County District Attorney's office this week and Bryant will plead guilty to a reduced Class C misdemeanor for family violence and will not face jail time or probation but will pay a $500 fine and attend anger management classes. Bryant was originally charged with a Class A misdemeanor that could result in a $4,000 fine and up to a year in jail. The wide receiver was arrested July 16 after an altercation with his mother, Angela. The Dallas Morning News had reported that she signed an affidavit that she did not want her son to be prosecuted. The district attorney's office and Bryant's attorney, state Sen. Royce West, could not be reached for comment. Even if Bryant did not plead guilty, he still could ha...

Witten's impact felt in Cowboys' opening win

How much of an impact did Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten make against the New York Giants in the season opener? According to a good friend and teammate, it was significant. Witten, who suffered a lacerated spleen on Aug. 13, only caught two balls for 10 yards in the 24-17 Cowboys win. But quarterback Tony Romo says having the veteran in uniform was more important than what...

A Great Opening Day Game by a Forgotten Cowboy

Dallas receiver Kevin Ogletree managed to change the focus of conversations from “The Cowboys don’t have a third receiver” to “This Ogletree kid looked awfully good. Should I pick him up on waivers for my fantasy team?” (Eric Karabell at ESPN says yes to the last question. I own Miles Austin in two leagues and would prefer to see better production from #19. That’s a different...

Cowboys' Jason Witten Doing Alright After First Game

No one knew for sure if Jason Witten would play as the NFL season kicked off with the Dallas Cowboys facing the New York Giants.  Witten had suffered a lacerated spleen in the Cowboys' preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.  He did not have to undergo surgery, but it was still unclear if he would play in the Cowboys' opener.  But he did play - to the delight of...

Garrett's message getting through to Cowboys

When not comparing his valiant tight end Jason Witten to "El Cid" or having his eye-glasses cleaned by his dutiful son-in-law, Jerry Jones is talking about Lombardi trophies. Fortunately, Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett doesnt want to touch that topic in the afterglow of his teams 24-17 win over the New York Giants. But dont be blinded by Garretts bland oratory...
