(Eds: APNewsNow. With AP Photos.) By SCHUYLER DIXON AP Sports Writer Dallas coach Jason Garrett implores Dez Bryant to run ''north and south'' with the ball. The Cowboys receiver is listening, and his career sure seems headed a lot more north than south. Bryant's first catch Sunday at Cincinnati (7-5) could get the Dallas receiver to 1,000 yards for the first time as a pro. The past four games, he scored in each one and had the same career high in yards twice. Garrett forced the third-year player to go ''north and south'' on a screen pass that ended up being the go-ahead touchdown in last weekend's 38-33 victory against Philadelphia. Bryant also used the theory to his advantage on an earlier scoring play for the Cowboys (6-6).

Dez Bryant says he’s just getting started

After a big win last night over the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant told the media that he’s confident and he’s just getting started. “I’m very confident,” Bryant said, per the Dallas Morning News. “I’m just getting started.” Bryant was so up and down earlier in the season and lacked the focus needed to be consistently great.  It looks...

Bryant making all his noise on the field now

ARLINGTON, Texas Dez Bryant has been making a lot of noise on the field lately. That he hasn't been making any noise off the field during this stretch is no coincidence. Bryant came up big in the second half of the Cowboys' 38-33 win over the Eagles on Sunday night. He had five catches, including two touchdowns and a 35-yard reception on a key third-and-two play. Over...

5 replacements for Jason Garrett, Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are not going to the playoffs once again in 2012, and Jerry Jones I'm sure is scouting potential replacements for Jason Garrett. You have to wonder what made Jason Garrett stand out to Jerry Jones so much that he was content with Garrett replacing Wade Phillips. Garrett is nothing but an offensive coordinator trying to be a head coach, and he has proven that...

Bryant blossoming into a star for Cowboys

It's been about three weeks since Tony Romo said on local radio that Dez Bryant had done a "180" in terms of his preparation for games. Those words seemed pretty hollow in light of the fact that Bryant had never been the picture of consistency during his first three years in the league. But it turns out Tony may have been onto something. Bryant, who has made as many...

Cowboys' ugly win won't save coach Garrett

ARLINGTON, Texas The Eagles and Cowboys had been hurtling down their own bumpy paths toward a primetime date for a while, finally colliding Sunday at the crossroads of crushing disappointment and wildly overrated. If we are being honest, it felt more like a game of "incompetence chicken" than an NFL contest. Eagles: We fumbled away a chance to win. Cows: You think that...

Cowboys' ugly win won't save Garrett's job

ARLINGTON, Texas The Eagles and Cowboys had been hurtling down their own bumpy paths toward a primetime date for a while, finally colliding Sunday at the crossroads of crushing disappointment and wildly overrated. Cowboys 38, Eagles 33

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Dez Bryant scored two second-half touchdowns, and the Dallas Cowboys rallied past the reeling Philadelphia Eagles 38-33 Sunday night at Cowboys Stadium. The Cowboys (6-6) needed to beat their wounded NFC East rivals to keep their playoff hopes alive. Dallas did just that in a back-and-forth affair. The Eagles (3-9) entered without their quarterback and with...

Report: Andy Reid eyeing Cowboys job if Jason Garrett is fired

It’s a pretty good chance that Eagles coach Andy Reid will be fired at season’s end. It’s also a pretty good chance that Cowboys coach Jason Garrett will be fired at season’s end. And that’s where the similarities between the two end. Reid will have multiple jobs to choose from and will probably be a head coach next season. As for Garrett, he’ll probably have to catch...

Eagles-Cowboys Live Blog, Second Half

For most of a half, the Eagles defensive issues seemed to disappear. It wasn’t until Dallas’ last drive of the half that they hit a pass to either Miles Austin or Dez Bryant. It hasn’t been great for Philly on offense, but the progress that Bryce Brown has had has negated DeMarcus Ware’s pass rush off the end. Also, he’s scored twice and that’s surely impactful, without...

A glimmer of offensive hope returns

The objective of any offense is production, not style points or aesthetics. So, when we are looking at how Jason Garrett's offense went about its business, we should be careful not to nitpick because we don't like how it looks. If they can get away with playing outside the normal perimeters of "fundamentally sound" or "conventionally proper" offense and...
