Jamie Squire/Getty Images North America Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel has stepped down from the defensive coordinator duties.  Since Todd Haley was fired last year, Crennel has been handling head coach and defensive coach responsibilities.  Crennel reported that Gary Gibbs will be the team’s new defensive coordinator. The Chiefs also waived starting cornerback Stanford Routt and signed defensive tackle Shaun Smith.  Routt had signed a three-year, $18 million deal to fill in after CB Brandon Carr headed for Dallas.  Crennel said Javier Arenas will move into the starting lineup.
