After two straight weeks of seeing terrible teams on Sunday Night, the Vikings and Colts, this week’s game is actually a hyped matchup. The Eagles are hosting the Cowboys in a must-win game for the home team.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are currently 2-4 and are in need of a win against Dallas. Their only wins this season have come against St. Louis and Washington, which does not impress anyone, especially after the hype leading into the season.

Falling to 2-5 would put the Eagles in a very tough spot, as they still have games against Chicago, New England, and both New York teams. Their playoff hopes would likely be dashed, so they must come out and stop the Cowboys.

The Eagles have the top ranked rushing offense in the NFL, and will go up against Dallas’s top ranked defense in the NFL. Establishing the run game early will be key for the Eagles, considering Michael Vick is prone to throwing interceptions when the offense is one-dimensional.

On defense the Eagles must be wary of DeMarco Murrary of the Cowboys, who is coming off of a game against St. Louis in which he ran for 253 yards. He will not come anywhere near that number tonight, but the Eagles’ rush defense is towards the bottom of the league, so he can easily have a 100 yard game.

Dallas Cowboys

Dallas will look to give the Eagles their first loss following a bye under Andy Reid after winning the last twelve. The Cowboys are having a solid season, and could easily be undefeated. All three of their losses saw them leading in the fourth quarter before ultimately losing the lead and the game. They blew a three point lead against New England two weeks ago, a fourteen point lead against Detroit three weeks ago, and a fourteen point lead in the opener against the Jets.

Many enjoy to blame these losses on Tony Romo, but the battered quarterback is hardly to blame. He has been hurt all year, and is playing through the pain in order to help his team.

Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan is always talking in the media, and in the summer he said that the Cowboys would beat the Eagles. His defense is prone to fourth-quarter collapses, so it will be interesting to see how they hold up. Forcing a few turnovers can take the pressure off of Romo and the offense.

Cowboys-Eagles Prediction

The Cowboys should be able to hold off the Eagles and send Philly to 2-5 and last place in the NFC East.

Cowboys 27 – Eagles 21
