Thanks to the Dallas Cowboys' decision to hold training camp in a different state and time zone, Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr wasn't able to be in the room when his fiancée gave birthday to the couple's first son on Monday.
But thanks to modern technology, Carr was able to see and hear the entire thing from 1,200 miles away.
Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram has details of Carr's wild Monday. He returned with the team to California after they took part in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game Sunday night, but then Carr was alerted that his fiancée was going into labor. He rushed to LAX but didn't have time to make it home before the birth. Instead, though, he was right there thanks to online and mobile video application FaceTime.
"I saw everything I needed to see," Carr told Williams. "I saw it all. Technology is wonderful these days. Sometimes you can’t control what’s going to happen. You’ve just got to go with the flow. I made the most of it."
Carr made it back to Texas to unite with his family during the first days of Austin's life. But now it's back to business, as he returns to camp in time to start Friday against the Oakland Raiders.
"I’m ready to get it on," Carr said. "I’m pretty fresh and ready to get out there and run around and get some action finally and get ready for the season."

The Cowboys had a short week to prepare for the Raider’s game, but there was no excuse for the sloppy play across the board. The first team offense looked horrendous, and Romo was back to his same bad habits of holding the ball and taking sacks.
What’s the deal with the Special Teams unit, its the same story every year, and tonight’s game just highlighted how bad they still...
According to the Dallas Morning News, defensive tackle Jay Ratliff won’t practice at all during the time in which the Cowboys are in Oxnard, California for training camp. Dallas isn’t worried about him missing their season opener against the Giants. Jay Ratliff will not practice while the team is in California, a source said, but there is no concern about his availability...
The Dallas Cowboys picked up defensive end journeyman George Selvie to add depth at the position, and he’s already making a big mark. He impressed coaches leading up to the HOF game last Sunday, and Selvie decided to dominate Dolphins’ rookie Dallas Thomas all game long, but it’s too early to crown Selvie as the next great Cowboys defensive end.
Everybody wants him to become...
Six-time Pro-Bowl guard Brian Waters still would like to play for the Dallas Cowboys, but just like in New England, the holdup is money. Waters sat out the entire 2012 season while being under contract with the Patriots. It was reported the Patriots offered him $4 million to play the second season of the two year deal and he turned it down.
According to Todd Archer of ESPNDallas.com, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo no longer has an endorsement deal with Starter.
While he signed a six-year extension with the Cowboys in the offseason worth $108 million, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback no longer has an endorsement with Starter and will enter the season without an agreement with any apparel company.
According to a source...
For many years now the Dallas Cowboys have had the pieces in place to suggest they were about to embark on a serious run to Super Bowl glory. Then they hit a wall. A wall so big that even this giant of teams cannot see past or over. Some blame individuals for the lack of success; this is harsh as when a team does have divisions, championships and Super Bowls, its always branded a team...
Cowboys rookie Travis Frederick started Friday night’s preseason game against the Raiders at center, but ended up playing some guard as well.
Even though many people got on the Cowboys for drafting Frederick in the first round– including myself–he’s seems to be a smart and versatile player that could end up being a very good offensive lineman in the NFL.

One of the more enjoyable aspects of Hall of Fame weekend was reflecting on the coaching ability and traits of Bill Parcells. The Hall of Fame coach did a nice job of talking about his career and thanking people, but he couldn't help but drop in a few of his philosophies of coaching that I so respected.
And it is clear, by the way, that when it comes to Parcells, and the way...

Tony Romo drew plenty of laughs when he joked on the first day of training camp that his offensive line looked good ''running up and down the sideline.''
It's getting to the point where it's not funny for the Dallas Cowboys.
Dallas has had injury problems at guard since training camp started more than two weeks ago. And now the Cowboys are in serious pursuit...

The Dallas Cowboys are trying to shore up their offensive lineman, and are targeting former Chiefs and Patriots guard Brian Waters.
They tried signing Waters before reaching an agreement with former Jets guard Brandon Moore, who abruptly retired.
Waters has made it clear “he would like to play, but doesn’t need to.”
That’s French for show me the money.
