The Cowboys need to fill a lot of holes on their roster yet and need a second round pick to do it. They only way they can do that is to trade more picks or start clearing the roster. The only question is who will they trade to get there.

Jenkins time in Dallas could be done.

The first two players that come to mind are Mike Jenkins and Felix Jones. It would surprise me to see either of these former first round picks being traded for a flat out 2nd round pick. Players generally have lower trade value on the day of the draft, but there are a few reasons to think these players could be gone.

Mike Jenkins is in the final year of his contract. He has really had up and down seasons in his four years in Dallas. In his first full season he made the Pro Bowl and after that seemed to disappear. Jenkins had a horrible third season and had many Cowboys fans calling for his head.  Last season was riddled with injuries and mediocre play as well. Dallas has not signed a new contract with Jenkins but has renewed fellow 2008 pick Orlando Scandrick and signed a high price free agent. That all would make sense on getting rid of Jenkins, but that does not mean Dallas will trade him this season. In the past Dallas has held on the Cornerbacks to allow the rookie time to acclimate. So they could holds onto Jenkins, but I fully expect him to be gone by then end of this weekend if not today. The biggest telling sign other than drafting a guy high in the first round and he needs to start is that Scandrick signed a long term deal, nothing was offered to Jenkins.

Felix Jones is a favorite of Jerry Jones and has been rumored to on the trading block. However I don’t see Dallas doing that now. There is no way they can afford to draft two running backs in the draft and still be able to pick up key d’linemen in the second and third rounds.

Jerry is surely making up for zero trades. He is like a junkie needing his fix so I would not be surprised if Dallas trades up, down, or players to change their draft status for today and tomorrow.
