Romo extending plays with his feet Ron Jaworski’s Daily Countdown of ranking the top quarterbacks in the NFL on ESPN found the Cowboys’ Tony Romo ranked at No. 15. Is this too high? or too low? or just right? This argument can go one of two ways. Supporters of Romo can argue that Jaworski (a former Eagles quarterback) has Romo ranked way too low on this list. Personally, I think he deserves a higher ranking. Romo constantly puts up Top 10 numbers despite an inferior offensive line, and actually wins more games for the Cowboys than he loses for them. Romo simply makes plays other quarterbacks cannot when the pocket breaks down. His creativity is second to none. In the 2012 season, Romo brought the team from behind in frequent manner, helping them climb the standings to even have a chance to play for the NFC East in Week 17 against the Redskins.  The one playoff victory in seven seasons as the starter necessarily isn’t all his fault. Critics of Romo can argue that one simply just can’t look past his big mistakes in big games, like Jaworski argues on ESPN. That argument is rightfully warranted however. Romo threw three costly interceptions in that Week 17 game, after only throwing one interception all of December. To be elite, he must fix the issue and perform in big games. The inconsistency of Romo in these big time moments indeed can warrant a ranking outside the Top 10, but not as low as 15. There is no way I would rather have guys like Jay Cutler and Matt Schaub ranked above Romo. Are you kidding me Jaworski? Must be some of that Eagles bias. Romo has been hearing his critics for sometime now though, and I doubt Jaworski’s ranking even bothers him. To ultimately silence these critics like Jaworski, Romo’s play must be consistent in big time moments. He has shown he’s capable. The Cowboys quarterback possesses 12 game-winning drives in his career, nine of which have come recently in 2011 and 2012. Romo also has the third most fourth-quarter comebacks in the NFL since 2006. It’s just a matter of finding that consistency. Romo’s improved consistency in big games can take the team and his rank higher than ever before. I believe that Romo pulls off the big time plays in crunch time in 2013, sending the Cowboys to the playoffs. The guy is just due to have his breakthrough moment. Maybe then Jaworski will give Romo the Top 10 Ranking he deserves.
