David Akers’ problems on the field for the 49ers this season are well-documented. More field goal misses than any kicker in the league (13). Second-lowest field goal percentage (69 percent). Had to go through a kicking competition just to keep his job for the playoffs.
Akers is baffled as to what the problem has been, given his ability to convert with no problem outside of game situations.
“I felt good all year,” Akers said. “Just doing the same thing in practice we’ve done all year. And wish those points would’ve counted in games. I had a great practice season, and training camp and pre-games. So it’s one of those things.
“It’s been a head-scratcher. But I’m still going to be positive about going into this game, 60 minutes away from possibility of being a world champion.”
So Akers is cool in nothing is on the line, but when it’s game time, he poops the bed? I think that’s called choking.
Beware, Harbaugh. Your kicker has head issues.
