Players are coming into town. Tender offers are being signed. The Lions are, once again, preparing for another long season of football.

While preparations are going on, it has been reported that there has been no comment from the former rookies in way of explanation for their actions. The Lions as a team are being rather hushed about it as well.  

Really, we shouldn't be happier. Why?

1) The Lions are dealing with issues in house. Just as they are not overly concerned with how people view the way they draft, they also don't care if people know or understand their disciplinary proceedures. The things they are focusing on are contributions to winning. Announcing to the world exactly how they intend to make sure they keep the players in line, doesn't help the players or the team. They are the only ones that matter. So while it may look like they are ignoring the past, they are in fact showing respect, building respect, and demonstrating exactly what they expect in the future.

2) The players are falling right in line. Players who grandstand and dramatically display apologies and explanations aren't trying to make ammends for past behavior. Often they are merely trying to curry sympathy for their own viewpoint. Or they are making an apologetic show so that everyone will see them and take note of what they are claiming. In short, they are promoting themselves not the team. This would be an opportunity for one or all of these players to try to make some kind of public statement in support of legal changes. Or they could be trying to sell themselves to the masses. But they are not. By simply shutting up, keeping their heads down, and working hard, they are showing to everyone that they know they made wrong moves. They are willing to give more to the team than to themselves.

At some point in time, questions will need to be answered. But we should not expect any long ,bold or grandiose speeches. The most we will probably hear are quick simple replies and moving on to other subjects.

The team is bonding together right out of the gate. They are resolving issues among themselves. They are protecting each other to a large extent. And they are demonstrating that the team is more important than individuals.

If you are a fan of the Lions, this is an extremely encouraging sign.
