It was a move that needed to be made. Say what you want about lack of discipline and character issues. The Detroit Lions were a franchise coming off of the worst record in NFL history. And that record was no fluke either. The previous regime had fielded a team so devoid of talent that, given the opportunity, they could have repeated the feat in 2009. In three short years, this team has gone from the absolute bottom of the barrel to seriously considering a Super Bowl run in 2012. The improvement has been nothing short of amazing. And one of the key factors has been the work ethic, dedication, and flat out brilliance of Jim Schwartz. Sure, the Lions could have waited until the end of the year, they made the wise move by signing him now. Although at the writing of this article, the details of the extension are not known, you had better believe the entire process is costing the Lions so much less by doing this now. Sure, it is possible that the Lions will have a less productive se...

Jim Schwartz’s contract extension, Twitter, one-liners, and other thoughts

There have been 22 confirmed arrests of NFL Players since the start of 2012. That number is astronomically low compared to pre-Roger Goddell figures. Packers confident, humbled, hungry for 2012

Perhaps it's a good thing the Packers won't see the Detroit Lions for the first time next season until Week 11 of the league schedule, which falls on the third weekend of November. What's become a chippy rivalry between the longtime division foes added a new layer for potentially fueling more friction. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz indirectly may have taken a shot at...

Stat Line: Detroit Lions

With one Detroit Lion after another cropping up on the police blotter this offseason, it’s worth remembering, as we approach the 2012 NFL season, one of the team’s primary undoings last year: lack of discipline. Detroit accumulated the second most penalty yards in the league in 2011 (behind only the Oakland Radiers, who set an NFL record). The Lions aren’t good enough to swallow...
