With a little more than three months left before the 2013 NFL Draft, we take a look at who some of the experts have the Detroit Lions selecting in their mock drafts. • Dane Brugler, CBSSports.com: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M The Lions’ future at defensive end looks uncertain right now with Cliff Avril about to hit free agency and Kyle Vanden Bosch turning 35 years old next season. Moore is still developing as a hand-in-the-ground edge rusher, but his motor and tenacity is enough to consider him a top-10 pick. • Rob Rang, CBSSports.com: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State Speed rusher Cliff Avril led the Lions with 9.5 sacks this year but that may not be enough to keep him in Detroit after he once again heads into free agency. A year ago Detroit franchised him after he reportedly turned down a three-year deal. The Lions could do the same this year but would still have depth concerns with backup Lawrence Jackson also entering free agency and 34-year old Kyle Vanden Bosch coming off the least productive season of his career. The 6-4, 255-pound Werner led the ACC with 13 sacks and finished second in the conference with 18 tackles for loss. • WalterFootball.com: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M Kyle Vanden Bosch likely won’t be back with the team next season because of his $5 million salary, while the other exterior pass-rushers, excluding Cliff Avril, have barely done anything this year. Damontre Moore said earlier that he planned on returning to school, but he officially changed his mind recently after learning that he was close to being a top-five lock with a shot at going as high as No. 2 to Jacksonville. • SBNation.com: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M It’s true the Lions have spent a lot of high-round picks on the defensive line the past few years. But Cliff Avril is once again facing free agency and didn’t sign his franchise tag until August. Opposite Avril is the 34-yera-old Kyle Vanden Bosch. Behind them is little quality depth. Moore could be used in pass rush situations behind Vanden Bosch early in his career and help a defense that finished 20th in the league in sacks. • DraftTek.com: Dion Jordan, DE, Oregon At 6’6″, 243 lbs., many teams will have Dion Jordan pegged as a possible linebacker. For the Lions, as the last real strident proponents of the Wide Nine, he is the perfect size to replace Cliff Avril at Defensive End. Avril was franchised this past season and Kyle Vanden Bosch restructured his contract. Both will cost the Lions too much to keep around this offeseason. The 2-time All-PAC-12 DE will look great in Honolulu Blue.
