The Detroit Lions really stole the show on the second day of 2013 NFL Free Agency with the re-signing of CB Chris Houston and additions of ex-Seahawks DT Jason Jones, ex-Dolphins RB Reggie Bush and ex-Texans safety Glover Quin.
Albeit Detroit has been very quite on the open market since then (only re-signing center Dylan Gandy and safety Louis Delmas and announcing the retirement of left tackle Jeff Backus), the team’s handful of moves have made the Lions one of the most-improved teams since the start of the new league year (March 12) and have cut down on several of their missing holes heading into the 2013 NFL Draft.
Here’s a list of the Lions’ updated team needs (in no particular order) heading into the draft, which kicks off in a month.

1. Offensive Line
Regardless of where Riley Reiff lines up on the line in 2013, the Lions will need to bolster their offensive line in the early rounds this April. Luke Joeckel won’t fall to the fifth sp...

Last season the Lions let down their fans by missing the playoffs. The expectations were high but they had a difficult schedule and I saw 10 wins as the ceiling. Calvin Johnson is a beast and set the all time single season record for receiving but, those stats don't win games. I watched every snap of every Lions game and their offense is inconsistent. What I saw was...
To go from the playoffs to 4-12 in one season, some individual performances had to regress significantly.
To go back the other way -- and return to contention in 2013 - the Detroit Lions will need certain players to make a turnaround.
Here are five who could have a major impact if they can take their production to a higher level:
1. Cornerback Bill Bentley
The Lions improved...
Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson had a historic 2012 season, setting a new NFL record with 1,964 receiving yards. Perhaps his most impressive feat is that he did this despite going against Richard Sherman and Charles Tillman, the two cornerbacks who made the All-Pro team, in three of his 16 games. In other words, [...]The post A closer look at Calvin Johnson’s historic...
Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz says running backs Joique Bell and Mikel Leshoure will still be part of the Lions offense, according to a report from detroitlions.com, but we don't see how.Fantasy Spin:Bush figures to be the starter and the pass receiver and Leshoure should get the short yardage and goal line work. Barring injury, that obviously would leave Bell, who caught 52...
The search in Detroit for a compliment to Calvin Johnson at wide receiver is in full swing, at the same time interest in former Raiders receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is also heating up. DHB met with the Colts earlier this week, and is now scheduled to visit the Lions.
The Lions have Nate Burleson returning, but he’s 32. They still have the promising but...
Over the next week or so I will be looking at each team division by division to see exactly where each of them stands now that the bulk of free agency is completed. There were teams that raised their stock and teams that saw theirs plummet. Today I start with the NFC North.
The Lions made some solid moves during free agency that will certainly raise their expectations...
