Found November 29, 2011 on The Jets Blog:
With the Jets taking on rookie phenom Roy Helu and the Washington Redskins, the team is going to need all the help they can get to stop the running game.  The bad news though is that the team looks to be without Mike DeVito, yet again, after an injury setback Sunday that has kept him from playing much of the past month. Rex Ryan said that Jets DT Mike DeVito will likely not play against the Washington Redskins this week after sustaining an MCL injury to his left knee on Sunday. DeVito injured his right knee before a Week 7 matchup against the San Diefo Chargers, missing two weeks. “Looks like he’s got a little bit of a knee, MCL thing,” Ryan said. “I don’t think Mike is going to play this week.” Rookie RB Roy Helu is starting to turn some heads for Washintgon, so the Jets are going to miss Mike DeVito’s run-stopping playmaking.  Of course, DeVito’s inability to play due to his injuries has opened up opportunities for Marcus Dixon and Ropati Pitoitua.  Both played commendably Sunday...

McKelvin, DeVito leave with injuries

Buffalo cornerback Leodis McKelvin and New York defensive tackle Mike DeVito have left Sunday's game with injuries. McKelvin, also a key special teams player for the Bills, went out late in the third quarter with a rib injury. He was hurt while scrambling to recover a muffed punt by Jets returner Antonio Cromartie. McKelvin had to be helped to the sideline after recovering the...

Video: Roy Helu goes vertical for first NFL touchdown run

The first time I talked to former Nebraska and current Washington Redskins running back Roy Helu, we were on the same plane back from the 2011 scouting combine. Meeting and talking to this very humble player got me watching his game tape, and I was impressed with his raw speed and ability to make plays in the passing game. We did a podcast together in March, and I took note when...

Mike Shanahan Shows More Love to Roy Helu and Redskins' 2011 Draft Class

At the start of the season, your Redskins Hog Heaven writers told you two things about the 2011 Redskins: 1. The team would be competitive with both Rex Grossman and John Beck at quarterback. The key words were "both" and "competitive." 2. You will like the 2011 team even if they finish with the same record as 2010. We predicted seven wins for the team. You...

Redskins show up late to stun Seahawks, 23-17

Roy Helu's hurdle gave Washington the kind of spark a team riding a six-game slide needs when it's down 10 points in the fourth quarter. Then it was up to Rex Grossman and the Redskins' defense to put an end to the team's longest losing streak in more than a decade. Helu's leaping 28-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter pulled the Redskins within three...

Helu will remain Redskins starting RB

ASHBURN, Va. -- Roy Helu is becoming too productive to ignore. Give the Washington Redskins rookie a start, and he’s good for about 150 yards of total offense. At least that’s what happened the first two times he got the nod. He piled up 41 yards rushing and...

Armstrong, Helu Stop the Bleeding for Redskins

It had been quite a while since Anthony Armstrong last did the Dougie. So it was a sight for sore eyes on Sunday as the receiver danced away the bad memories of the Redskins’ six-game losing streak after catching a 50-yard touchdown pass to provide the difference in a 23-17 win over the Seahawks. It’s no secret that Armstrong has been in Mike Shanahan’s doghouse this season...

NFL offenses must take risks to score points: throwing the deep ball

Sunday’s win was a milestone for the 2011 Redskins. Not only did it snap a losing streak, it also marked the first complete team win of the season. Nearly all facets of the team contributed positively—offense, defense, running game and passing game. Only the kick protection and offensive line stood out as weak spots. Although Rex Grossman was sacked only once, he was victimized...
