Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu appears to be the healthiest he's been in several seasons, and the team will need him to remain that way in 2013 if they expect to make a run at a seventh Lombardi Trophy. With that being said, defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau said Thursday during his talk with the media that just because Polamalu is in the lineup, it doesn't mean that it will change what the team will try to do defensively from a play calling standpoint. "Really, believe it or not, we only have a few defenses that are what I would call Troy defenses," said LeBeau. "It's just the defense that we call will look a little bit better when Troy's in there. I would like to say that we do some kind of mastermind scheme, but it's just Troy's presence." So how important is it to have Polamalu healthy and playing in the season opener? Over the course of his career, the veteran safety has recorded five of his 30 regular season interceptions i...

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu entering the field (photo credit: Charles LeClaire/USA Today Sports) The Pittsburgh Steelers begin their season this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. The preseason was very disappointing for the Steelers so it’s not much of a stretch to say that the same is to be said for the regular season. This season is poised to be a long and hard...

A Look Ahead At The Steelers Potential Free Agents In 2014

The Pittsburgh Steelers will kickoff their 2013 season Sunday at Heinz Field and unless any players receive contract extensions between now and then, the team will have 19 free agents at the end of season assuming all are still on the 53 man roster by then. Below is a quick recap of the players that are entering their final year under contract and schedule to be free agents in 2014...

Steelers DE Cameron Heyward To Be Featured In Sub Packages This Year

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted defensive end Cameron Heyward in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft and with this now being his third season, he is expected to play a lot more than he has in his first two seasons. Head coach Mike Tomlin talked about the Ohio State product Tuesday during his press conference. "We feel very good about Cam Heyward," said Tomlin. "We...

The Steelers missed the playoffs last season. That cannot happen again, can it? Week 1 picks.

The Steelers did something that doesn't happen often in Pittsburgh, they missed the playoffs.  They've made some changes on offense, will they be enough to move forward? After postings a record of 164-92 last season, I'm ready to breakthrough to 70% this season. We've started off on the right foot by getting the Broncos game right. Here's a look...

Late-blossoming Clark honored by captaincy

Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark never wanted to be a captain. When his teammates failed to name him one during his collegiate career at LSU, Clark says he was relieved. Still, Clark didn't turn the honor down when the Steelers named him one of four captains for the 2013 season. The 11-year veteran called it a ''blessing'' and feels he's at the point...

The Pittsburgh Steelers have now wrapped up their Friday practice as they prepare to take on the Tennessee Titans in their Sunday season opener at Heinz Field and the final injury report for the week has now been released. Cold Blooded: Mike Tomlin Unfollows the Cut Steeler Players

Mike Tomlin didn’t join all that long ago, but has already figured out how to use the Social Network in all it’s glory.  I will go through my Twitter feed sometimes and just start purging out these accounts that I am sick of seeing on my timeline.  Mike Tomlin did it to the players that the Steelers cut off the team!  It already sucks enough to be cut off a NFL team, but to...

The Story Of Guy Whimper

By Matthew Marczi With a few days now gone by since the final 53-man roster was first tallied and the Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly done making roster moves, it certainly appears that journeyman offensive lineman Guy Whimper is here to stay, at least for now. So what exactly does that mean for the 2013 season? As it currently stands, it should mean virtually nothing, barring injury...

NFL Injury News: Steelers rule out RB Le’Veon Bell week one

The Pittsburgh Steelers decided that they need a significant upgrade at the running back position during this spring’s NFL Draft. They selected the prolific scoring machine, Le’Veon Bell with hopes he would become the team’s every down back, something unique in today’s NFL game. Bell appeared in just one NFL preseason game and sustained a foot injury. Originally thought of...

Loss Of Will Johnson Could Result In More 12 Personnel Groupings Against Titans

The season is not getting off to a good start for Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Will Johnson, who will more than likely sit out the Sunday season opener at Heinz Field against the Tennessee Titans with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. With Will Johnson likely to be sidelined, the Steelers might very well use a fullback by committee...

Ben Roethlisberger answered questions about the 0-4 preseason, Jonathan Dwyer, the running game, his motivation, the local baseball club, and much more.

Titans-Steelers Preview

Following their 8-8 finish last season, Ben Roethlisberger figures to have his work cut out for him as he attempts to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers back to the playoffs. Without a go-to workhorse in the backfield and possibly two of his top receivers from 2012, Roethlisberger will try to help the Steelers win their 11th straight home opener Sunday against the Tennessee Titans. While...
