The Atlanta Falcons have spent the offseason looking back to last year and wondering what happened and what could have been.  They almost made it to the promised land as they were rolling along up 17 points early in the NFC Championship and 10 points at the half, but then the doors were slammed shut in the second half that was all they would score as they lost the game 28-24 to the 49ers and their chance to play in the Super Bowl. The Falcons and GM Thomas Dimitroff have been analyizing the roster and realized they did not need an overhaul, but just a few tweeks could make the difference and bring them to that next level.  Those moves have been: Secondary – Upgrade the cornerbacks by releasing Brent Grimes (6 years and coming off a torn achilles) and Duanta Robinson (10 years) and replacing them with speed and youth in their first two round selections Desmond Trufant (1st from Washington, and brother of Marcus with the Jacksonville) and Robert Alford (2nd - Southeastern Louisiana) Defensive end – Released John Abraham and Ray Edwards and replacing him with Osi Umenyiora (NY Giants) and drafting Malliciah Goodman (Clemson) and Stansly Maponga (TCU).  Hopefully these changes can bring back the pressure they need to put on quarterbacks. Running back – The team let go workhorse Michael Turner, who’s numbers dropped significantly this past season (yards per carry dropped from 4.5 to 3.6) and signed former St. Louis Rams Steven Jackson, who is coming off another 1,000 (8th consecutive) yard season Tight End – They thought they were going to have to replace soon to be Hall of fame TE Tony Gonzalez, who said he was retiring, but after some thought, came back for another campaign. The team will need to see if the new changes on defense will help in passing game (23rd last season), but as long as they have an offense that can score(7th at 26.2 points per game) led by QB Matt Ryan, they will have a chance to get the opportunity again to challenge.  Time will see, but with a lot teams making similar changes they will have to hope their moves were better.  Reviewing Dimitroff’s track record, he will make it interesting in the wild NFC this year.
