As time ticked down on a Minnesota Vikings victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, the Vikings wrapped up a playoff spot, and guaranteed that the New York Giants and the Chicago Bears would be sent packing for the remainder of the season. Beating the Packers and knocking the Bears out of the playoffs was like the ultimate "two birds, one cup" move for the Vikings, but things somehow continued to get only better on Monday, as Chicago also decided to fire head coach Lovie Smith. So essentially, since the Vikings beat the Packers and made the playoffs, the Bears fired their coach. We're coach killers! But that's not all. The dominos have continued to fall in Chicago after Lovie's firing, as Bears' kick return specialists/wide receiver/cornerback/I don't actually know what he does on the team anymore player Devin Hester is now considering retirement. So really, the Vikings beat the Packers, keep the Bears out of the playoffs, get the Bears' head coach fired, and possibly force the greatest threat from the Bears' team into an early retirement?! This is like a victory bukkake! Details after the jump.   Devin Hester has been a notorious trouble maker against the Vikings. If Vikings' punter Chris Kluwe were to have a mortal nemisis ala Lex Luther or Norman Osborn, it would probably be Devin Hester. Hester has seemingly returned more punts and kickoffs against the Vikings and Kluwe than any other team and/or player in the history of organized sports, so much so, that McFarlane toys even created a player figurine of Chris Kluwe capturing one of these said moments. However, all of that may finally be done with. Hester, who is 30 years old and has only a year remaining on his contract with the Bears, has only ever played for Lovie Smith in the NFL. With him on the outs, it sounds like he's getting a bit jaded by the business side of the NFL. Also, maybe that Jay Cutler now has a new "receiver" for all of his "long balls" if you catch my meaning, in Brandon Marshall. Here's a quote from Hester: "I don't even know if I want to play again," Hester said. "That's been something on my mind for two years. It's not (much fun for me anymore). I've got my workers comp papers in my pocket. We'll see how I feel. I'm going to go home and talk to my wife and talk to my family and see where we go from there. I got two beautiful kids, man, two boys. A lot of stress has been on my mind lately." All I can say is that if this holds up, the "rebuilding" period for the Minnesota Vikings may be much shorter than anticipated. In a year where the team was expected to go something like 3-13 AGAIN, miss the playoffs, and end fourth in the division, they instead **** all over the Lions face, destroyed the Bears franchise, made the playoffs, and are only lost one game more than the division winning Packers. I say that's ... And next year? A better healthier Peterson, better Ponder, another solid draft, more experience, a signed Greg Jennings as a wide receiver, against a new coaching staff in Chicago, more Detroit ineptitude, and whiny Packer fans? I like our chances. [follow]
