I think Jim Harbaugh has seen Kaepernick at practice the last two years and has been itching to get him into a game. Last week Harbaugh's expectations were met or exceeded and he's ready to move on. I don't think Smith gets back on the field this season.
After going a red hot 13-1 in week 11, I went 2-1 on Thanksgiving day. For the season that makes it 106-57. I'm still in striking distance of .750 for the season.
Let's take a look at week 12.
Minnesota at Chicago - The Vikings are coming off their bye week to face a Bears team that got destroyed last week by the 49ers. The Vikings started off hot but lost several games after Ponder started to turn the ball over. A weeks rest will help AP with his recovery and he'll be fresh to run the ball. If Ponder can manage the game against the Bears defense the Vikings will win this game.
The Bears were embarrassed last week on the national stage. Everyone got to see why Cutler is always so mad at his of...

Harbaugh is going with the ‘hot hand’ Kaepernick
Two days ago after Colin Kaepernick led the 49ers to victory over the Chicago Bears, Jim Harbaugh was asked who would be his starter against New Orleans. Harbaugh responded by saying, “I usually tend to go with the guy that has the hot hand and we have two quarterbacks that have a hot hand.”
Well, it was reported tonight that the ‘hot hand’ he is going with is Colin Kaepernick...
Jim Harbaugh Is Ironically Benching Alex Smith on Thanksgiving After Once Defending Him Against ‘Jive-Turkey Gobblers’
For 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh, letting Alex Smith sit another week and giving the San Francisco starting job to youngster Colin Kaepernick was probably just good football sense.
But considering Harbaugh made the decision on the eve of Thanksgiving, the situation has become more interesting.
Smith, after all, is the quarterback that Harbaugh defended earlier this season against those...

A report says the 49ers will go with Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith at quarterback on Sunday against the Saints, and it's not a decision made for injury reasons.
Harbaugh makes right call going with Kaepernick
Regardless of his motives or how he minces words, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh made the correct decision by naming Colin Kaepernick over Alex Smith as the starting quarterback right here, right now. It may not lead to a more peaceful Thanksgiving Day among 49ers fans and media, who will now pick apart the call much as they did the pre-decision controversy. But that is the nature...
Give Harbaugh credit for being decisive on Kaepernick
There are so many attributes that make 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh successful.
One of them is going with his gut when it comes to decision making.
Harbaugh had a quarterback controversy to deal with after Colin Kaepernick filled in nicely for the injured Alex Smith on Monday night. The 49ers backup quarterback threw two touchdowns and 243 yards in the Niners’ 32-7 victory against...

Smith expcted to be medically cleared
Jim Harbaugh expects Alex Smith to be medically cleared to play by Saturday.
Still, the 49ers coach did not announce Friday who will start at quarterback at New Orleans in two days.
Harbaugh says it serves no purpose to his team and organization to let anybody know what his plan at quarterback is for Sunday's game against the Saints.
Harbaugh also refutes reports earlier this...

After a stunning debut last week against the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick showed the NFL world what he is capable of doing on the field. After the game, head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked by reporters if the starting quarterback position would be given back to Alex Smith when he was medically cleared after suffering a concussion. Harbaugh responded by simply...
Keep others guessing, but 49ers know who's QB
Who’s telling who will start for the 49ers at quarterback against New Orleans? Certainly not Jim Harbaugh this week. Not even close. And that’s the way it was all the way up to Sunday’s kickoff at the Superdome, where Colin Kaepernick will continue as the team’s starter or the Niners will go back to Alex Smith. To be sure, nobody around the 49ers was stepping forward to clear...
Colin Kaepernick reportedly will start over Alex Smith for 49ers
San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is not messing around. According to Sports Illustrated’s Jim Trotter, Harbaugh informed Alex Smith that Colin Kaepernick will start at quarterback on Sunday at New Orleans.

Kaepernick, the best QB of the 2011 draft class?
San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Jim Harbaugh is set to name Colin Kaepernick the starting QB for the game against the red hot New Orleans Saints. It's extremely rare that a winning NFL team will switch quarterbacks near the backend of their schedule. That is a testament to Kaepernick's talent and ability as well as an indictment to former starter Alex Smith. Besides starting...

The San Francisco 49ers currently have themselves what could be described as a good problem to have at the quarterback position.
