Jeff Klein at the New York Times takes a look at donations made by the owners of the NHL’s 23 United States-based clubs to candidates and political parties during the current election cycle, including the Dolans who have contributed almost exclusively to Republican candidates...

RANGERS: James Dolan, the Cablevision magnate, is the only owner among the metropolitan area's three N.H.L. teams to contribute in this election cycle – and he is all in for the Republicans. So far, Dolan has given $35,800 to various Republican national committees, $2,500 to Romney, $5,000 to Mitch McConnell and $3,500 to Representative Peter King of Long Island.

The only exception after contributing $51,800 to the Republicans: Dolan gave $3,000 to Senator Bob Menendez, Democrat of New Jersey.

...with President Obama's take from the rich and give to the poor approach to governing this country, it's no surprise to see the Dolans contributing to the Republicans. Only possible reason I can see them donating to Menendez was to grease him up to help with a Cablevision deal in New Jersey.

...while I'd much rather see the Dolans save their money and lower ticket prices than donating it to politicians, I'm assuming the tax breaks they'd get under the Republicans will make up for their donations 10-fold. Either way Rangers fans aren't seeing a drop in ticket prices.

...what I found interesting was Islanders owner Charles Wang not donating. Maybe if he would have contributed to the campaigns of a couple of Nassau County elected officials his team would have a brand new arena by now.
