The Wayne Fontes Experience:
As first reported by Lions blogger Mike Schottey (who appears frequently on The Knee Jerks) of Blue and Silver Pride last Friday, the Detroit News' John Niyo just confirmed DE Jared DeVries will return to the team on Monday.
DeVries, who has spent his entire 11-year NFL career in Detroit, was released by the team in late February with an expectation he might be back after testing the free-agent market. The Lions avoided paying him a $400,000 roster bonus due in early March, but his new contract is worth $1.7 million, the same as he would've earned on his previous deal.
DeVries isn't a star by any means, but he's a good depth signing for the Lions...if he's fully recovered from his season ending Achilles injury suffered in training camp. DeVries a solid veteran who makes the defensive line rotation that much deeper. Better still, the team gave DeVries the $400K he originally lost out on when waived, which is good for both player PR and karma in general.
