Bush League Chronicle:
San Francisco 49ers safety Donte Whitner has taken the next step in his pursuit to change his last name from Whitner to "Hitner."
The Ohio native has expressed an intent to change his name ever since the National Football League fined him $21,000 for an illegal hit earlier this season.
On Tuesday, Whitner sent his attorney Larry Zukerman to file the official paperwork at Probate Court of Cuyahoga County.
In the application, Whitner wrote that he wants to make the change because it will be beneficial to his professional football career, as well as other business ventures.
The entire process typically takes about six weeks before the name change is approved by a judge. So, it might not be until after Thanksgiving before we see Whitner's name change take effect.
You can read the application in its entirety by clicking here.

Things just keep getting worst for Aldon Smith. Smith is currently in rehab on leave from the 49ers and today it was announced that the Santa Clara County DA has filed weapons charges against him. A party Smith had in June of 2012 with former teammate, Delanie Walker resulted in a lawsuit from an alleged shooting that occurred that happened that night and now three felony charges...

The San Francisco 49ers looked more like the 2011 version with Alex Smith, however, they won easily and that is their formula for success. Frank Gore pounded the Houston Texans defense and the 49ers defense took advantage of a falling apart at the seams QB Matt Schaub.
The San Francisco 49ers knew that they had to send a statement throughout the league, implicating that they are still one of the top contenders in the NFL. Considering the fact that their demoralizing defense is without Pro-bowler (ILB) Patrick Willis, (OLB) Aldon Smith, (NT) Ian Williams, and possibly (DE) Ray McDonald; they still possess the defensive depth to get the

The San Francisco 49ers are riding high after steam rolling the Houston Texans 34-3 in San Francisco. A win that definitely boosts the spirits of those in 49ers country. The 49ers needed to win, and blowing out Houston could be the beginning of many solid performances for San Francisco. The 49ers get the luxury of staying in the Bay Area this week, as...
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, one of the felony gun charges against 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith states that police found a, ArmaLite AR-10 in his home.
As you can see from the photo above, this is not your typical gun.
I would love to know why Smith needed such an advanced weapon in his home.

After finding out that the NFL plans on forcing teams to appear on Hard Knocks of they can’t get a volunteer each season, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that he wouldn’t mind doing it.
“If that’s something we were in position to do, then we’d certainly do it,” said Harbaugh via 49ers.com.
Harbaugh has an idea on how to make the show better.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Colin Kaepernick strolled through the 49ers' locker room with about a dozen or so reporters, then made his way into a small nook where several offensive linemen sat in front of their stalls.
After some lighthearted protests and ribbing from his teammates left the 25-year-old quarterback chuckling quietly, Kaepernick turned stone-faced serious when...
The San Francisco 49ers claimed quarterback McLeod Bethel-Johnson off waivers and released journeyman backup quarterback John Skelton.
Bethel-Thompson, who was with the 49ers in training camp before the 2011 season, joined the defending NFC champions one day after getting released by the Minnesota Vikings. A native of San Francisco, Bethel-Thompson has not played in an NFL regular...
It is now official, Aldon Smith will be facing three felony weapons charges.
Sources told the NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit the Santa Clara County District Attorney has filed three felony charges of possession of assault weapons against 49ers All-Pro linebacker Aldon Smith. Anquan Boldin has seen double teams before in his 11-year career. But never quite as many as have been thrown at him and the 49ers in the first five games of the season. "At times but not as much" Boldin said today when asked if he saw double coverage in Arizona and Baltimore.
Offensive coordinator Greg Roman echoed those sentiments. "Well he's getting doubled...
I wondered who would get the loudest cheers when I found out that the defense was going to be introduced at the Houston Texans vs San Francisco 49ers game. Patrick Willis was not going to be cleared to suit up for this game. Usually, he is the one the gets the loudest response when his name is announced. The next most logical choice would be Navorro Bowman. He was introduced first...

The 49ers expect to add two veteran wide receivers to their 53-man roster this season coach Jim Harbaugh said on Monday.
But there appears to be nothing imminent on acquiring a player via a trade.
The 49ers are “unlikely” to agree to a trade with the Cleveland Browns for wide receiver Josh Gordon ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday. The sides have reportedly discussed...
