So much for veteran Marlin Jackson being the answer at free safety. Already nursing a surgically repaired knee, Jackson took a major step back today after suffering a right ankle injury, which one team source called “not good.” Uh oh.
Well, it’s a good thing they drafted Nate Allen, but now the rookie may be forced into duty much sooner than the Eagles wanted. Moving Macho Harris back to free safety could be the short term answer until Allen is ready. However, Macho was expected to contribute at his natural position, right cornerback, where the Birds are still incredibly thin.
Whatever the case, it appears Jackson will not be available for quite some time, if at all. The ghost of Brian Dawkins just won’t go away. Since allowing the future Hall of Famer to walk prior to the 2009 season, filling the void has become a freakin’ nightmare.
I feel bad for Marlin, but the Eagles got what they deserved for signing damaged goods. Jackson hasn’t played a full season since 2007 and if early reports prove accurate, he won’t get the chance to do so in 2010.
