After being released just three days ago from the Denver Broncos, Drayton Florence is reportedly already taking first team snaps with the Detroit Lions (Credit: AP Photo)

According to ProFootballTalk, Drayton Florence is taking first-team reps in practice with the Lions, only three days after getting the boot from the Broncos.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press, is reporting Florence filled in at right corner for Chris Houston, who is still recovering from a sprained ankle.

“I was shocked, but he’s out there making calls,” linebacker Justin Durant said, via Birkett. “He’s been playing a long time, he knows what he’s doing.  I’ve got confidence in him.  Everybody here knows who he is so once he gets our terminology down I know he’s going to be good.”

“He’s a veteran player,” coach Jim Schwartz said. “He’s played inside, he’s played outside. He’s got a lot of experience.  Can play press.  He’s got some multi-dimensional skills that we like and like I said he’s very experienced.  He didn’t make it at Denver, but he had a good career before that and we look forward to having him contribute for us.”

Detroit Lions preseason recap

When all is said and done, the preseason is not the actual season. The goal of training camp is to find out who belongs on your team, and who doesn’t.  This, of course, is all done with a major emphasis on staying healthy. The Lions were able to accomplish their preseason goal in a healthy manner, making the 2012 preseason a success in my mind.  While the team didn’t look as...

Matthew Stafford stars in Monday Night Football commercial

As Matthew Stafford’s level of stardom grows, he’s going to need to become more comfortable in front of the camera.  Now, we know that he’s more than comfortable chucking deep balls to Calvin Johnson and hitting Brandon Pettigrew over the middle.  And the guy is smooth and 100% class during interviews.  What we didn’t know was if Stafford could work his way through a...

Detroit Lions: Most Loved and Hated Players

Most LovedThe Detroit Lions are coming off their first playoff birth since the Barry Sanders era. That obviously gives fans in Detroit a lot to love.Matthew Stafford threw for 5,000 yards, Ndamukong Suh brings the nasty attitude that Detroit fans have always loved, and Jim Schwartz has turned an 0-16 disaster into a team opponents have to respect. But when it comes down to it, the...

Matt Stafford Poses With Kid Rock

We are Detroit Rock Players Juan… Matt Stafford showed what he was capable of when he stayed healthy for a complete season in 2011.  5,000 yards and 40 TDs sounds like a breakout season to me.  Kid Rock is obviously a big Detroit Sports Fan so of course posing with it’s sports stars is a very cool thing for all involved.  AP Hits The MSF Cosell On Ridley
