During a press conference in Indianapolis yesterday it was announced that Drew Brees was named the 2011 FedEx Air NFL Player of the Year. The choice was pretty much a no-brainer as Brees had the best season of his career; posting career highs and setting records. Brees set the passing record for a single season with 5,476 passing yards; he also set records for completion percentage, 71.2% and most completions in a single season, 468. In addition to all of the records he set, Brees also led the NFL in touchdown passes with 46. Since the establishment of the award in 2003 Brees has won it 4 times including this year. Not only does this award highlight Brees’ phenomenal season but it also gives back to the New Orleans community; FedEx will donate $50,000 to the Greater New Orleans area as well as Delaware Valley.
