It’s not the long-term deal he had hoped for, but DT Derek Landri will be extending his stay in Philadelphia by one year. The Inquirer says the deal is worth a “possible $1.8 million.” Derek Landri The 6-2, 290 Landri made his presence known on the line in the 2011 season, despite being cut by the Eagles just before the start of the season. He was brought back to help the team after the injury of Antonio Dixon in October, playing in 12 games and racking up 43 tackles and two sacks. Landri drew some interest from other teams in the league during free agency but feels that there is unfinished business for him and the Eagles defensive line in 2012. “We have potential to be better than we were last year, and we left a few things on the table last year. I’m not satisfied at all with the outcome, and I decided to come back and be a part of it.” With the signing, the Eagles added depth to the line as well and kept together a strong unit. DTs Cullen Jenkins, Mike Patterson, Antonio Dixon an...

Eagles Resign DT Derek Landri

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they have agreed to terms with free agent defensive tackle Derek Landri.  This morning the two sides agreed to a one year contract, details to come. In 12 games last season for the Eagles, Landri recorded 43 tackles and two sacks. This will be the defensive tackle's 6th NFL season, and second with the Birds.  In his career, Landri...

Philadelphia Eagles 2012 Draft: Narrowing Down the 1st Round Prospects

With the NFL draft getting closer, it’s time to start narrowing down the first round prospects for the Philadelphia Eagles.  Recently, I wrote about the Eagles’ draft patterns and listed out some criterion to go by in an effort to rule in or rule out potential players. Therefore, this article is a continuation of my last article and based on the patterns discussed there.  Here...

Eagles 2012 Draft Prospect: North Carolina Defensive End Quinton Coples

Two years ago, the Eagles drafted Brandon Graham and hoped he could be a forceful pass rusher opposite Trent Cole. Graham is yet to live up to expectations, so the Eagles may try to find a young stud again this year. One option they may explore is North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples. At 6-6 and 285 pounds, Coples doesn’t exactly fit the bill of pass rushers the Eagles...

Philadelphia Eagles Draft: Things That May Offer Insight Into First Round Pick

When looking at the Philadelphia Eagles’ previous habits and patterns leading up to the NFL draft, one can start to discern a few things that may give us some insight as to what they might do come draft day. Photo: gcobb.com The Eagles are very difficult to predict when it comes to their first round pick.  This is because of perhaps their most notorious tendency when it comes...

Philadelphia Eagles: offseason news and notes (part two)

The Eagles front office has been busy lately. The Draft is quickly approaching and free agency is in full swing. It’s hard to believe that in just three and a half months the Eagles will be walking onto the practice field at Lehigh University. To put that in perspective, three and a half months ago we were all opening presents and singing carols around the Christmas tree. There...

How much pressure is really on Andy Reid?

Many believe that Andy Reid is under pressure to produce some kind of postseason run – with good reason. The Eagles have Pro Bowl talent at nearly every position group and Reid has now had two swings at replacing Donovan McNabb (Kevin Kolb, then Mike Vick). Vick has been up-and-down, and his third season as a starter will reflect immensely on the Eagles‘ record and Reid’s judgment...

Philadelphia Eagles sign OT Demetress Bell

Demetress Bell, who now spells his name wrong, signed 5 year, 35 million dollar contract with the Eagles. It’s a front loaded deal with not a lot of guaranteed money so he probably won’t be in Philadelphia for much longer than a year. They need a new left tackle with Jason Peters hurt and Bell was the best available left on the open market. They did overpay slightly for a player...

Philadelphia Eagles Reportedly Interested in S Yeremiah Bell

The problems of the Philadelphia Eagles secondary in 2011 are no secret. So a report that the team is interested in former Miami Dolphin Yeremiah Bell is not terribly surprising. The interest was relayed to a Miami television station via Bell’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, according to the Miami Herald. Bell (6’5, 205) was the longest-tenured player on the Dolphins (8 years) and was...

Eagles to target QB in the draft?

A few weeks ago the rumor was that the Philadelphia Eagles would trade up and attempt to draft quarterback Ryan Tannehill. The idea that the Eagles would target a QB of the future was very valid but to trade up to the top ten for a 2012 backup is not. Peter King of Sports Illustrated suggests the Eagles could make a selection in the second round. The Eagles have the 51st overall...

Back to work... Eagles re-sign DT Derek Landri to one-year deal...

Good to be back...just got home from the road trip. No sooner do I pull up the driveway when the news broke on Derek Landri...Landri only played 355 snaps in 2011 but contributed 21 tackles (8 for losses), 2 sacks and a blocked field goal...Derek Landri, 6-2, 290, age 28, 6th year out of Notre Dame... He's a great rotational fit for what Jim Washburn's line tries to accomplish...
