TEAMS: New York Jets
The New York Jets enter this weekend's game against the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium facing what could be considered a must-win early in the season. Next week the Jets visit the New England Patriots before hosting the Miami Dolphins, then finally the bye week in week nine to split their schedule in half. A win this weekend gives the Jets a good shot to enter the bye week at 4-4, whereas a loss could sent them into a dangerous tailspin. Luckily for the Jets, they are starting to get some players returning from injury, such as Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill.

The New York Jets will be playing shorthanded for the rest of the 2012 regular season, without their two most-talented players in Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes. Without Dustin Keller and Stephen Hill, the Jets have taken an even bigger hit on offense. Both players are expected to return for this weekend's game versus the Indianapolis Colts, hopefully providing some much needed punch to the offense.

The return of Dustin Keller should be very welcome news for Mark Sanchez, with Dustin Keller serving as his security blanket throughout his career. His return will push Jeff Cumberland into the second tight end spot, but Cumberland should still be involved fairly heavily in the offensive plans for this weekend. Jeff Cumberland should get some more favorable matchups with more attention being paid to Dustin Keller.

Stephen Hill has been inconsistent in the games he has played so far as a rookie, but his physical talent makes him a threat. Defenses have to account for a 6-4, 215 wide receiver with elite speed. That should open up things for the other Jets receivers and push safety help over to his side, opening up some throwing windows for Mark Sanchez.

More weapons means more ways to exploit opposing defenses. The Jets are far from an offensive juggernaut, but every upgrade helps and Stephen Hill and Dustin Keller represent two big upgrades over what the team trotted out onto the filed in their 23-17 loss to the Houston Texans on Monday night. If Tony Sparano can conjure up some magic, the Jets just might be able to get back on the winning track and make next week's game with the New England Patriots a little more interesting.

Jets owner plans to keep Tebow for three years

Having been a long-time confidant of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Woody Johnson, some say, is more political than football-oriented. Whether or not that assertion is correct, the Jets owner sure sounded the part while discussing Tim Tebow. On Wednesday morning, Johnson appeared in an interview on CNBC and was asked if Tebow will remain with the Jets beyond 2012...

Lawrence Taylor offers some words of advice for Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is a lot of things. He is a devout Christian. He is a Heisman Trophy winner. He is a marketing gimmick, and most importantly he’s a lightning rod for football fans of every ilk, mostly because he’s terrible at playing quarterback. And with this lightning rod status, everyone has an opinion. The latest [...]

Rex Ryan and Bruce Arians renew their rivalry this weekend

Free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens did an interview with TSN in Canada and claimed that he’s not desperate to join the Jets after his tweet on Monday night, but rather they’re desperate for help at the receiver position.“It’s not begging for a job when you know you can still play at a high level, given the opportunity,” Owens told TSN. “When you have a defensive back...

Ryan says Sanchez will remain Jets starter "this week"

People are going to read into the wording used by New York Jets coach Rex Ryan when he said on Wednesday that Mark Sanchez will remain the Jets starting quarterback "this week." The fact that Ryan did not commit beyond Sunday's game against Indianapolis may or may not mean anything, but it certainly will fuel speculation about whether Tim Tebow could become the starter...

New York Jets ReSet: What we learned from Texans

We’ve heard it so many times that it’s become a part of our sports lexicon, “There is no such thing as a moral victory.”  I can understand how that applies to the players and the coaches, who’ve given their all for the W, and will accept nothing less.  I can understand how that may apply to a franchise, one that sets a standard of excellence very few can dare to achieve...

Key Matchups WK 6 - Jets.

After the sheer exhilaration of victory against the Packers on Sunday, the Colts could be forgiven for a slight emotional deflation. The optimistic amongst us however will hope for another convincing performance this Sunday against the Jets, a team shorn of their two most significant players in the skill positions. With Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes, I would tag the Jets as...
