Eagles coach Chip Kelly might wait until Sunday before deciding on his starting quarterback for Philadelphia's game at Tampa Bay.
Michael Vick is nursing a pulled hamstring, suffered in last Sunday's 36-21 win over the New York Giants, and has been limited all week. Foles played well in relief of Vick as the Eagles improved to 2-3.
Foles worked with the first team again on Thursday.
''I get a feel from Mike that he is improving, and I just go day by day,'' Kelly said. ''He said he felt good. But we'll see what happens when we go and get warmed up.''
Asked how long he could wait before making a call in anticipation of Sunday's 1 p.m. game, Kelly smiled.
''Up until 12:59,'' he said. ''No, I mean really, we'll see how it is as we go into it. Again, we're never going to put Mike in harm's way and we're always going to do what's best for the team. The good thing is we still have three full days to really get a full evaluation of where we are with this whole thing.
''Mike is honest. Mike will give you kind of where he is and how it feels. He's been that way so far. So we'll see as we get closer to game time where we are with it.''
Vick worked out at the team's indoor facility because of the weather Thursday.
''I feel better every day,'' Vick said. ''I'm able to do more every day. To say I can go Sunday, I can't make that statement right now. But I can say I feel better every day. I think if I had to play today, I could.''
Vick, who has only played a full season once in his entire career (2006), started the first five games for the Eagles this season and has a quarterback rating of 90.6. He has five touchdown passes and two interceptions, and has also run for 307 yards and two more scores. He was beginning to look like a combination of the old Vick and the new more efficient Vick all in one.
Before the injury, of course.
''It's crazy,'' Vick said. ''Everything was going well. I was trying to run a different way, higher steps, because somebody told me I should do that. And it just went. But I'm a quick healer. I'll be OK.''
Foles completed 16 of 25 passes for 197 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Giants. He defeated Tampa Bay (0-4) last year for his only NFL victory in six starts.
''I always prepare as if I'm going to start,'' Foles said. ''So if Mike can't go, I'll be ready.''
NOTES: Starting safety Patrick Chung, who missed the past two games with a shoulder injury, looks like he may return vs. Tampa Bay. Rookie Earl Wolff, a fifth-round draft pick from North Carolina State, had been starting in Chung's place. ... The Buccaneers are coming off a bye.
