Former Green Bay Packers defensive end Cullen Jenkins was released Monday by the Philadelphia Eagles. With Jenkins due to make 5.5 million for the 2013 season, the Eagles decided to part ways with the 32-year-old veteran. Jenkins had four sacks, 26 tackles and one forced fumble this past season while playing in all 16 games. Jenkins, who played his first seven NFL seasons in Green Bay before signing with Philadelphia in 2011, is now a free agent. The Packers showed no interest in re-signing Jenkins two years ago despite a productive 2010 season that helped lead to Green Bay's Super Bowl victory. But, with Packers young defensive lineman Jerel Worthy unlikely to be ready for training camp after recently undergone knee surgery, could Jenkins be back in Green Bay next season? Given the Packers' reported interest in former New York Giants defensive end Chris Canty, general manager Ted Thompson is seemingly looking to upgrade the group surrounding B.J. Raji and 33-year-old veteran Ryan Pickett. Green Bay has been shedding veterans this offseason, but a reunion with Jenkins makes some sense for the Packers on paper, especially if the price tag is relatively inexpensive.
