How big of a problem is Eli Manning for the Giants right now? It didn't seem like it at first, but Eli is becoming a huge reason why the Giants are 0-5. The Giants can no longer pretend that their quarterback is not costing them games. Now before everyone gets too angry, I know exactly how good Eli has been in the past and what he has meant to this team. I am talking only about the 5 games he has played so far this year for the Giants. This season has been a roller coaster of blame, but right now it sits squarely on the shoulders of Manning. There were turnovers galore to start the season, followed by an awful offensive line. Once those things were sorted out it became clear that something just isn't clicking with Manning this year. Against the Eagles, Manning threw three picks late in the game, but also was responsible for three costly intentional grounding penalties. Maybe it's the fact that with a lack of a running game and an awful offensive line he has put too much pressure on himself. Maybe there is an undisclosed injury that is hampering him. Maybe it's just a case of some bad luck on a cold streak. If it is the latter, it's one heck of a cold streak though. Just look at the numbers- Eli's QB rating is 65.8 after five weeks. That puts him at 32nd in the league. Ahead of him at number 31 is Christian Ponder, who was benched for Matt Cassel last week. After Eli is Josh Freeman, the Tampa Bay QB who was cut this season, and Blaine Gabbert, the QB of Jacksonville- the only other 0-5 team in the NFL. Eli also leads the league in interceptions, is 32nd in completion percentage, and only two QBs have been sacked more than him. Not exactly the kind of company Eli Manning should be keeping. The Giants were pushed around by their opponents at the end of last season and this year they've picked up right were they left off. It definitely isn't time to start thinking about long term options, but Eli's play recently reminds us fans that at 32 years of age, some of his best days may be behind him. What do you think is the biggest problem the Giants face this year? How would you turn this team around?
