Since 2008, the Cardinals have blocked 15 kicks, more than any other team in the NFL. They've blocked so many, in fact, that they almost expect to make a big play every game. "It's a little bit like blood in the water for sharks," kicker Jay Feely said. "You get a little taste and you want more." There are a handful of reasons for the Cardinals success. First, coach Ken Whisenhunt puts a heavy emphasis on it. He learned under former Steelers coach Bill Cowher to gauge his team's competitiveness by watching the block teams. Many players often give up on those plays, usually because they are tired and discouraged from giving up yardage. "Sometimes guys are tired," special teams coach Kevin Spencer said. "It could be the end of a 10-play drive. They are disappointed and sometimes guys go through the motion. We don't tolerate that here. It's a football play." Second, the Cardinals have Calais Campbell, a 6-foot-8 de...

Cardinals Defensive Coordinator Ray Horton Says Patriots Were Tipping Offensive Tendencies

The Patriots looked out of sync offensively all game on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, and it cost them, as the Cardinals surprised the Pats with a 20-18 win. According to an opposing coach, the New England offense played a hand in, well, slowing the New England offense. ProFootballTalk.com points out that Arizona defensive coordinator Ray Horton is now saying that the Patriots...

Arizona Cardinals: Week 3 NFL Power Rankings (#23)

Last week: 23 (+7) Record: 2-0 The Cardinals are one of only 6 undefeated teams left in the NFL, but they’re by far the weakest of the bunch. They’ve been outgained in each of their first 2 games, but won anyway, and have a negative yards per play differential and are tied with Jacksonville for the worst yards per play rate at 4.2. They’ve got a nice defense, but I still don’t...

Eagles giving Kevin Kolb and the Cardinals a big opportunity

Playing a former team always gives players an extra bit of motivation in the week leading up to gameday. Playing a former team that also bailed on you as a player gives you even more of a kick in the rear. This weekend, the Arizona Cardinals are matched up against the Philadelphia Eagles, Kevin Kolb's former team. Life hasn't exactly been easy for Kolb since being...

Leach: Youth a factor with inconsistency

WASHINGTON STATE COACH Mike Leach generally has an interesting way of stating his thoughts. Sometimes that requires clarification. Leach was asked about his “tent over circus” statement, his thoughts on the development of a defensive lineman and, of course, the Pac-12 story of the week – injuries – during Tuesday’s Pac-12 coaches conference call.

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By ROB MAADDI AP Pro Football Writer Kevin Kolb waited three years to replace Donovan McNabb as the starting quarterback for the Eagles only to keep the job just one half. Two years later, he has a chance to prove they gave up on him too soon. ''I'm trying to prepare myself, make sure I'm not too excited, too hyped,'' Kolb...

Eagles Defense Has One Task in Week 3: Stop Larry Fitzgerald

Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images Attention Juan Castillo: Whatever you do this week, make sure Larry Fitzgerald's whereabouts are accounted for on every single snap he's on the field.  And make sure you relay this to Nnamdi, DRC, Nate Allen and Kurt Coleman as well. In case you didn't realize, Larry Fitzgerald absolutely loves playing the Eagles.  We all know he's one...

2-0? Yes, 2-0. On to Arizona.

We are witnessing the first 2-0 start since 2004, two outstanding defensive displays, and the ablility to win games late. Except for turnovers and penalties, our Philadelphia Eagles gave us reasons for optimism against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. We saw big time use of the tight end Brent Celek, a balanced run and passing attack, sharp passing by Michael Vick, and solid...

Know Your Enemy - Philadelphia Eagles vs. Arizona Cardinals

EAGLES vs. CARDINALS (Sun Sept 23 4:05 PM ET) The Cardinals are a surprising 2-0 start and they shocked the Patriots on the road last week. Still, their passing offense and rushing offense does not rank in the top 25 in the league. The Eagles are also 2-0 and they looked much better than their season opener in last week’s win over a solid Ravens’ team. Michael Vick...
