The San Francisco 49ers announced that rookie safety Eric Reid will start for them right away.
“He’s getting better each and every day,” the respected coordinator said. “Overall, he’s just been steady. He’s grown into the position which has allowed his ability to come through more. He’s tackled well in the games, which is important for us… We think he’ll continue to improve as the season goes on.”
Of course Reid is happy with the good news.
“It’s obviously good news for me, so I’m just going to keep working hard and try to keep the spot,” said Reid.
The 49rs certainly didn’t draft Reid in the first round to sit and not play.

49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio officially named Eric Reid's the team's starting free safety Tuesday replacing the departed Dashon Goldson. His first test? Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
Punting has remained relatively unchanged since, well, ever. 49ers punter Andy Lee may be changing that. According to sports-kings.com through yahoosports.com Lee is working on a “knuckle-punt” which would be exactly what it sounds like. A wobbly punt that would be a punting equivalent of a knuckle ball. “It’s definitely something I want to do in a game to see how it...
49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was impressed with what he saw from rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton during Sunday night’s preseason game against the Vikings.
“He’s a great player,” said Kaepernick, who completed seven of 13 attempts for 72 yards and a touchdown. “He is someone who just knows football. He knows how to get open. He knows how to make plays. I’m looking...
Listen, I know there have been a lot (and I mean A LOT) of controversial, ignorant, and just plain idiotic tweets in the handful of years that Twitter has been a social media powerhouse but, in my opinion, the one Brian Westbrook delivered yesterday takes the cake:

Matt Barrows reports that a league source has informed him that the 49ers intend to release QB Seneca Wallace following their final preseason game.
Wallace, 33, was signed to a contract just last week, but San Francisco appears to be comfortable moving forward with Colt McCoy and rookie B.J. Daniels as Colin Kaepernick’s backup this season.
Wallace didn’t generate a lot...
A person with knowledge of the trade says the San Francisco 49ers have sent linebacker Parys Haralson to the New Orleans Saints, who are in desperate need at the position as a pair of would-be starters are sidelined with knee injuries.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity Monday night because neither team had announced the trade. It wasn't clear what compensation the 49ers...

The San Francisco 49ers will wrap up the 2013 preseason with a game in San Diego against the Chargers. This is a game where none of the starters are likely to play. Usually the last preseason game is reserved for the guys at the bottom of the roster. For some of them, this is the last opportunity to show what they have. The preseason gives fringe roster players a chance to get some...
