Found March 25, 2013 on Phin Nation:
The Miami Dolphins need to upgrade their offensive line.  If the season started today, Jonathan Martin would be their left tackle and Nate Garner would be their right tackle.  If that thought doesn’t scare you like a horror movie, then you might have drank too much this weekend.  The Dolphins obviously need to upgrade their offensive line.  There simply isn’t enough talent there to protect Ryan Tannehill right now.  The Dolphins obviously went out and got Tannehill a lot of shiny weapons this offseason.  Why then would they not address the big guys up front, who’s job is to protect Tannehill?  I think they will and I think there is a plan. Photo Courtesy of Rick Kimpel (via Wikipedia) The biggest question out there right now is why the Dolphins have not signed Eric Winston.  Winston will be 30 years old in November, however he was ranked as the #9 right tackle in the NFL last season.  He’s also not going to be overly expensive.  Oh yeah, did I mentioned that he….ya know…..WANTS TO PLAY FOR THE DOLPHINS???  It’s a mystery why a team that needs a right tackle would not sign the best available right tackle on the market, who wants to play for them….. and for a reasonable price.  The Dolphins had money set aside for Jake Long and since he bolted for the Rams, they have that money available, although Winston would only take a portion of that. So why isn’t he signed?  This is pure speculation, but the PhinNation theory is that the Dolphins are not completely sold on Jonathan Martin being a franchise left tackle.  They drafted him to be a right tackle last year.  Although he didn’t get Ryan Tannehill killed last season after filling in for Jake Long, he didn’t exactly light the world on fire.  He gave up sacks and pressures and was at best an average left tackle (and that is being generous).  So maybe the Dolphins are holding off on signing Winston because they view Martin as their answer at right tackle for the 2013 season.   (cont’d on page 2, click here)

Dolphins reportedly still in the mix to land Brent Grimes

According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, the Miami Dolphins are still in the mix to land free agent cornerback Brent Grimes. The Dolphins could use a player like Grimes with Sean Smith now on Kansas City. Grimes has drawn a lot of interest after suffering an Achilles injury this past season.  My guess is he’ll sign a one-year deal with a team, so he can prove he’s healthy...

Miami Dolphins sign OLB Philip Wheeler

This random signing of a linebacker by the Dolphins wasn’t as bad as the Dannell Ellerbe atrocity. Wheeler played pretty well last season, grading out as ProFootballFocus’ 7th rated 4-3 outside linebacker, but you have to remember where he was a year ago. Last off-season, he didn’t even get a million dollars on a 1 year deal from the Raiders because he was only seen as a two...

Miami Dolphins re-sign S Chris Clemons

Clemons is an unheralded player, but he graded out positively both against the run and in coverage last year. He barely played in 2011 and struggled in his first two years in the league after the Dolphins took him in the 5th round of the 2009 NFL Draft, so credit the Dolphins for not committing too much long term to him. With this deal, he’ll have to prove it again and he should...

Report: Dolphins have some interest in Dwight Freeney

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter via Evan Silva, the Miami Dolphins have some interest in free agent defensive end Dwight Freeney. Schefter didn’t elaborate, but the Fins could provide competition for the Broncos, who want Freeney to help replace Elvis Dumervil. Freeney is 33 years old and coming off a five-sack season. Because Von Miller and Cameron Wake generally play the...
