The Chip Kelly era is going to begin much like the Andy Reid era ended.

So says the Worldwide Leader, anyway.

In their annual NFL preview issue, ESPN predicted that the Eagles will lose 41-0 to the division-rival Redskins, Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com reported.

Coincidentally -- or not -- the game will be broadcast on ESPN as part of their Week 1 Monday Night Football double-header.

But no need to pack it in, Eagles fans. If history is any indication, the actual outcome will be much different. Shorr-Parks did some diligent digging and came away with the following facts:

  1. Kelly was shut out a grand total of zero times during his four years as head coach of Oregon.
  2. Speaking of Oregon, Kelly's offense managed single-digit points just once in 52 games.
  3. There's only been 13 shutouts in the 158 times the Redskins and Eagles have played.
  4. The Redskins have not recorded a shutout -- of any opponent -- since 1991.

For what it's worth, this is the only shutout ESPN foresees in the Eagles' 2013 campaign. So just in case Philly needed some bulletin-board material for Monday night, there it is.
