The Buffalo Bills have resigned Tarvaris Jackson and deemed their quarterback position open for any challenger on the roster. That might spell bad news for quarterback Ryan Fizpatrick, but if you ask one of the teams former coaches, it was already bad news to begin with. Pete Mezelaars is the former tight ends coach for the Buffalo Bills.  Regardless if he has an ax to grind or not, Mezelaars let loose on Fitzpatrick, telling the Buffalo News, “Ryan Fitzpatrick is a below average quarterback at best.”  He didn’t stop there either. “I don’t want to throw Fitz under the bus, but you’ve got to get an answer at quarterback,” Metzelaars told me. “That’s got to be the No. 1 priority.” “If you have a dominating defense, you can get by with an average to below-average quarterback,” Metzelaars said. “If you don’t have a dominating defense, you need a winning quarterback in the NFL. “Fitz is an average to below-average kind of guy, and unfortunately he made some bad decisions at the end of games and then didn’t make plays at the ends of other games we had chances to win. So it’s got to start there.” Metzelaars was fired along with Chan Gailey and his staff.  It seems that Pete Metzelaars feels he might have a job if not for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
