The Atlanta Falcons, the only undefeated team in the NFL, will be without linebacker Sean Weatherspoon on Sunday.  The Falcons will be taking on the Dallas Cowboys in Atlanta.  Weatherspoon will sit with an ankle injury, but he is not the only Falcons player who will sit out.  Kevin Cone will not play Sunday either.  He is dealing with a strained groin. According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the team has more than two injuries, but Witherspoon and Cone are the only two officially out so far.  Coach Mike Smith spoke about the team's injuries. “I want to be as transparent as I can be,” Smith said. “We’ve ruled out two players for the game this week. Sean Weatherspoon will not play this week. Nor will Kevin Cone.  Those are the two guys that we made a determination on. They are not going to be available for this week’s game.” Weatherspoon has helped the Falcons defense to the league's tenth-best defense against the pass.  He  is in his third year in the league.  He has 40 tackles this season already after finishing last season with 86 tackles.  Weatherspoon has yet to have an interception, but he has certainly been felt defensively. Cone has been a far less important piece of the Falcons' success.  He has played in seven games, but he has yet to catch a pass.  Last season, in his rookie year, Cone didn't catch a pass either in the one game he played.  Cone came from Georgia Tech. The Falcons look to be the best team in the NFC and possibly the best team in all of football.  They have not been bitten hard by the injury bug, so as long as they stay healthy, they should be able to continue their success throughout the season.   Follow @TheNFLInjuryRpt !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://www.thenflinjuryreport.com//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs"); var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-34100676-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ? The halfway point of the season for most teams is coming up in week nine, and there...

Tony Gonzalez not happy with the national media

Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez isn’t happy that the national media continues to disrespect his team even though they’re currently undefeated with a 7-0 record. “Is the national media making a big deal about us like they would if it was Philly, Green Bay or New England? No, they’re not,” Gonzalez told USA TODAY Sports Thursday. “We played Philly and beat them...

Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez maintains that there is a 95 percent chance he will call it a career following the season. “There is no doubt I could keep playing for a couple more years at a pretty high level,” said Gonzalez, via the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “but it’s just almost that time for me.” This has been Gonzalez’s position for some time now. Despite being 36...

Falcons rule out Weatherspoon vs. Cowboys

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Falcons will face Dallas on Sunday without leading tackler Sean Weatherspoon, as head coach Mike Smith ruled him out on Thursday with an ankle injury. Weatherspoon, the weakside linebacker, had played every snap on defense for the Falcons this season until suffering the injury with 9:08 remaining in Sundays 30-17 win at Philadelphia. He was removed from...

Falcons CBS Robinson, Samuel find common ground

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By GEORGE HENRY Associated Press Falcons cornerback Dunta Robinson never questioned Atlanta's offseason trade for Asante Samuel. Falcons' Weatherspoon to miss game against Dallas

Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon, one of the leaders of the Atlanta Falcons' defense, will miss Sunday night's game against the Dallas Cowboys with a right ankle injury. Coach Mike Smith says after Thursday's practice Weatherspoon and receiver Kevin Cone,...

Atlanta Falcons: Week 9 NFL Power Rankings (#1)

Last week: 3 (+2) Record: 7-0 I’m moving the Falcons into the #1 spot for the first time all season, but I’m still not sold. 4 of their 7 wins have come by a touchdown or less. They’ve been very reliant on winning the turnover margin, which is inconsistent on a week to week basis. They rank just 19th in yards per play differential and 4th in rate of sustaining drives differential...

Falcons' Abraham showing no signs of slowing down

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. What were the chances that defensive end John Abraham was going to return as a member of the Atlanta Falcons last season? Atlanta's Ryan not interested in MVP discussions

(Eds: Updates. With AP Photos.) By GEORGE HENRY Associated Press Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan doesn't like to discuss his accomplishments and never says much when asked to consider his chances of becoming the NFL's MVP. The Friday Blitz: Jerryworld Comes to Town

The Friday Blitz this week will be short and to the point. I have some concerns and some thoughts on the upcoming game. First, here are some of my concerns heading into the Dallas game. Sean Weatherspoon is expected to be inactive Sunday Night with an ankle injury. Do I think it is serious? No, but he is without a doubt our leader on defense. Lose your leader = bad things can...
