Sean Smith (Photo credit: Julio Cortez/AP) A dominant performance was on display; as the Kansas City Chiefs sacked the Oakland Raiders ten times in last Sunday’s win. The Chiefs, who have one of the better fantasy defenses, are playing the Houston Texans and are facing undrafted quarterback Case Keenum, a first time starter. Last Week the pedestrian St. Louis Rams defense scored a staggering 29 fantasy points against the Texans woeful offense. Kansas City will look to blitz the Houston quarterback and make Keenum move around the pocket. The Chief’s Fantasy Defense was highlighted in 2003 when specialist Donte Hall returned four Touchdowns on special teams. With another strong showing against Houston, Kansas City’s Defense/ Special teams appear to be returning to their glory days. If you’re looking for a Defense to pick up this week you should look at who the team is playing. I like the San Diego Chargers who are available in majority of leagues. They play the Jacksonville Jaguars who are ranked 32nd in total offense this season. The Chargers looked impressive against the Indianapolis Colts, as they only gave up nine points, to the high powered Andrew Luck led offense. With Blaine Gabbert inactive with a hamstring injury, the Jags will have to rely on Chad Henne to try and pull out any sort of win. The Chargers’ defense has allowed the second fewest yards in the NFL over the last three games among teams that have not had a bye. (San Diego Chargers – Mike Nowak) Dominate Defense of the Past: The 2000 Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens won the Super Bowl in 2000 over the New York Giants thanks to their amazing defense. The Ravens offense was nothing spectacular, as Quarterback Trent Dilfer had a modest 76.6 Quarterback rating. But the Ravens Defense helped many fantasy teams win their league. With a linebacking core led by Ray Lewis, the opposition averaged only 13 points. On December 24th 2000 the Ravens scored an impressive 36 fantasy points vs. the New York Jets.
