The world can be a dark and scary place at times. This statement holds especially true when you enter week four of your fantasy football season with a largely inconsistent or unproven roster. If one is to have any lingering questions or concerns regarding his or her team’s stability at the running back position, then that is usually the key issue at hand for fantasy owners, and rightfully so. While running backs continue to get plenty of fantasy attention, one position that is so highly regarded in the professional game but often gets overlooked in the fantasy ranks, though, is none other than the almighty quarterback position. Running backs, wide receivers, tight ends – injuries happen. You can survive a week or two with one of your top contributors on the sidelines nurturing an injury while his waiver-wire backup temporarily fills the void in your team’s lineup. However, no one wants to head into their league’s premier matchup of the week with Carson Palmer running the show. Luckily for Palmer owners (I sincerely hope that he is not your first option), QB depth should not be much of a problem so far this season. The inconsistencies shown thus far from guys like RGIII and Eli Manning are obviously a scare for any fantasy owner, but the truth of the matter is that there have been at least two or three guys each week who weren’t even on the fantasy radar heading into the season that produce enough in one or two games to warrant at least a backup role (i.e. Terrelle #%$*@%#! Pryor). With that being said, we’ve almost reached that point in the season where fantasy owners begin to jump ship on some of their team’s hottest commodities heading into the season (David Wilson, anyone?). Now’s the time to start finding their replacements. Asking Brian Hoyer to live up to his #11 ranking this week may be more than a bit too much. (Photo credit: Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images) Recently, fellow isportsweb contributor Scott Peceny came up with his own version of fantasy football “sabermetrics” and ranked the top week four fantasy options at both running back and wide receiver. I’ve created a similar stats-based system to help rank the top fantasy options at the quarterback position. The system takes all the good stuff into account (yards per attempt, completion percentage, touchdowns per attempt, interception per attempt, quarterback rating, and opponent’s passing yards allowed per game, among a plethora of other statistical categories).   Remember, this is strictly stats-based, so you may notice some oddities (I don’t think too many folks will agree with Brian Hoyer’s #11 ranking). Regardless, the QB position is chock-full of quality options, so don’t just focus on the top five or six guys here. Depth is obviously key in fantasy football, so feel free to delve into this week’s rankings to determine which QB’s you should start/sit/add/drop/trade/trade for/obsess over this week. 1. Josh Freeman …Ha, just kidding. 1. Peyton Manning (22.27) 2. Philip Rivers (17.22) 3. Michael Vick (15.54) 4. Russell Wilson (14.56) 5. Tony Romo (13.86) 6. Drew Brees (13.25) 7. Matt Ryan (12.95) 8. Jay Cutler (12.78) 9. Alex Smith (12.08) 10. Matthew Stafford (11.94) 11. Brian Hoyer (11.65) 12. Andy Dalton (11.47) 13. EJ Manuel (11.45) 14. RGIII (11.33) 15. Tom Brady (10.93) 16. Andrew Luck (10.91) 17. Ryan Tannehill (10.80) 18. Jake Locker (10.76) 19. Matt Schaub (10.65) 20. Ben Roethlisberger (10.61) 21.*(Questionable) Terrelle Pryor (1o.54) 22. Joe Flacco (9.36) 23. Eli Manning (8.36) 24. Carson Palmer (8.31) 25. Geno Smith (7.20) 26. Matt Cassel (5.71) 27.
