Found April 27, 2013 on Juan Elway:
I’m an impressive guy Juan… The Bills went into this draft with EJ firmly placed in their sights.  While most thought they would go with Geno or Nassib early, they moved down in the first and still got their guy.  Manuel is an intriguing guy from a fantasy standpoint based on the fact that he can run and sling the rock.  He is a project a la Kaepernick and may take some time to develop.  The Bills have Kevin Kolb there already and Manuel could sit behind him if he doesn’t pick up things right away.  Kolb is a major injury risk and an average QB anyway, so Manuel will get his shot this season, it just remains to be seen when.  Greg Cosell said Manuel is the only QB in this class that can be successful with the ‘read option’, so the Bills may implement that offense to highlight his skill set.  He does have solid veteran WR Stevie Johnson, stud RB CJ Spiller, and fellow rookie WR Robert Woods to operate with, so the offense has a chance to be dynamic.  It will depend how fast he and Woods can get on the field and be productive, but Manuel is a guy I will be keeping an eye on in training camp. Jim Kelly hopes E.J. Manuel can deliver for the Bills

Former Bills great Jim Kelly believes E.J. Manuel gives the city of Buffalo as well as the Bills some hope for the future. “I think I’m as hopeful as every fan in Buffalo,” Kelly said, per the Buffalo News. “I live here. This is my home now. I said it earlier: You get tired of people always referring back to when I played. I don’t want to do that. I want to refer somebody...

Rookie QB Manuel has ties to Bills famed past

Buffalo Bills rookie quarterback EJ Manuel is already well-connected to the franchise's Hall-of-Fame past. Bruce Smith, the NFL's career sack leader, is his godfather. Former star quarterback Jim Kelly is ready to take Manuel under his wing. On Friday, Manuel began looking ahead to the future, a day after being the only quarterback selected in the first round of the NFL...

E.J. Manuel will compete for the Bills starting job

Buffalo Bills President and Chief Executive Officer Russ Brandon has already made it clear that rookie quarterback E.J. Manuel will have to compete for the starting job.  ”Our goal coming in was to bring in another bell-cow quarterback to compete for the job [with newly signed Kevin Kolb and holdover Tarvaris Jackson], and we did that with E.J.,” Brandon said, per Yahoo! Sports...

With members of the Buffalo Bills hierarchy expecting the rookie to compete in 2013, E.J. Manuel may get maimed in Orchard Park this autumn

Sounding ******* crazy, members of the Buffalo Bills hierarchy expect raw rookie E.J. Manuel to compete with Kevin Kolb to become the team’s starting quarterback in 2013. The 23-year-old Manuel, drafted by Buffalo 16th overall out of Florida State on Thursday, is brimming with potential. However, the 2013 Senior Bowl MVP and 2012 second team All-ACC selection is nowhere near ready...

Bills' drafting E.J. Manuel lacked sound strategy

Since being promoted to the position of general manager, Buddy Nix's teams have gone 4-12, 6-10 and finally, 6-10. That's a crappy record that no general manager can actually defend. Why does he still have a job in the NFL? The worst part is 6-10 seems to be the high water mark for the Bills again this year. Yesterday I wrote that the Browns had essentially given up on...

A Q&A about EJ Manuel with an FSU Writer

I'll make it short. The Bills drafted EJ Manuel and I don't feel like going on YouTube to see his greatest hits and misses because I'm at work. Instead, I got a Q&A  about him from the boys from Unconquered Noles, the FSU blog for Bloguin. Enjoy. 1) What are his pros and weaknesses? EJ has the physical tools and work ethic to be successful. He's good...

I am not surprised by the Bills taking E.J. Manuel, neither are the NFL Scouts

E.J. Manuel is a very athletic quarterback, which is what Buffalo has been looking for since Buddy Nix has came to Buffalo.  Since Buddy came to B-Lo he wanted several quarterbacks, and they missed out.  They wanted Cam Newton first but he was taken by the Panthers. Then the horrendous trade they tried making to get Tim Tebow.  Well this year you have to give Buddy Nix and company...

EJ Manuel accidentally got phone call meant for No. 3 pick Dion Jordan

Former Florida State star EJ Manuel made out better than many people expected in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday. The Buffalo Bills selected him with the 16th overall pick, and he ended up being the only quarterback taken in the first 32 selections. However, there was a brief moment when Manuel thought the night was going to turn out even better. Just before the Miami...

Geno Smith not returning for Round 2

The NFL Draft came and went with several significant surprises, perhaps none more shocking than the Buffalo Bills taking quarterback EJ Manuel in the middle of the first round. What makes the selection even more surprising is that former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was available at the time. Smith fell past the Bills and every other team in the first round, and the top prospect...

Bills move back to get their guy; select Manuel 16th overall

Buddy Nix wanted a QB. The fans wanted a QB and all the experts pointed towards a QB. When the dust settled on the first round, the Bills had come away with the man they think is the answer at quarterback. EJ Manuel. After swinging an effective trade to slide back eight spots, Buffalo selected Manuel out of Florida State making him the first quarterback ever selected with...

Day Two Bills Predictions

The Buffalo Bills made a bold and surprising move on Thursday night when they selected quarterback EJ Manuel instead of Geno Smith or Ryan Nassib with the 16th overall pick. It caught a lot of flack from the so-called “draft experts” for being a pick that could have waited. While that may be the case, the Bills had a mission and idea in mind, and they did what they had to do...

Mike Florio Says Geno Smith Is A Big Baby For Not Attending Day Two Of The Draft

Though more than a few analysts had predicted he would be Top 10 pick, Geno Smith sat around all night on Thursday without being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft. In fact, the only quarterback selected was the Bills’ surprising choice of E.J. Manuel with the 16th pick. Rather than hang around on the second day to see which team swoops him up (presumably) in the 2nd...

USC WR Woods drafted by Bills at No. 41

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- The Buffalo Bills have selected Southern California junior receiver Robert Woods with the 41st pick in the NFL draft. Woods joins first-round selection Florida State quarterback EJ Manuel in what's becoming a revamped offense under rookie head coach Doug Marrone. Listed at 6-feet and 190 pounds, Woods was a three-year starter who had a school record...

Linemen & trades highlight surprising first round

There is one thing that is always unpredictable when it comes to trying to forecast the NFL draft. Team needs are easily identified and news leaks of players going to a particular team, but one thing you can rarely see coming is a trade. The when, who and where in the draft almost always blow up mock drafts. Mine was no different. But even with the surprises, my mock got five players...

Geno Smith reportedly changed his mind, will attend Day 2 of NFL Draft

No player was more disappointed after round one of the NFL Draft on Thursday night than former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. After a great deal of speculation that he could be the first quarterback taken, Smith sat at Radio City Music Hall and watched 32 players embark on a new life without hearing his name called. Instead, the Buffalo Bills took EJ Manuel with the 16th overall...
