I guess Felger and Mazz are finding that it is impossible to be both a contrarian AND say that the Giants are going to roll, since everyone seems to be saying the Giants will win. They’ve now changed course and are talking like the Patriots might actually have a chance in this one. It’s  easy to be a popular radio host in Boston apparently – just figure out what most people are are thinking, and go the opposite way. With the last full-team media sessions today, things should settle down a bit in the trash-talk and guarantee department. I have limited access today, so here are some of the top stories from this morning: ‘Scar’ runs deep – Greg A Bedard with a feature on Dante Scarnecchia, maybe the best yet. Brandon Spikes proves hometown not a dead end – Ian Rapoport has the Patriots second-year linebacker overcoming his childhood environment to make it to the Super Bowl. Matt Light doesn’t get too serious – Mike Reiss says that t...

Brandon Spikes Plays 'Violent,' Models Game After Older Generation Who 'Tried to Rip Your Head Off'

INDIANAPOLIS -- Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes can be an intimidating player on the field, and he doesn't shy away from that reputation off the field, either. The 2010 second-round pick is a hard hitter who attacks the hole and loves to show his emotion when he makes a play. And he'll tell you about it, too. "I'm going to try to do all means to try and hurt you...

Light set to handle load for Brady again

New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light doesn't have a sick sense of humor. He just has a warped wit about being sick. Asked for the umpteenth time Wednesday about a stomach ailment that affected him earlier this week, Light unleashed a semi-fake sneeze into a reporter's microphone. "Yeah, I was a little under the weather," Light continued without skipping...

Patriots LT Light, RT Vollmer ill, miss Media Day

New England Patriots left tackle Matt Light and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer missed Media Day on Tuesday due to illness. Light is not expected to be sidelined for long and will play in Super Bowl XLVI. The news that he will compete may bother New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who said on Friday that Light's play "really gets under my skin." On Tuesday...

Umenyiora wishes Light well

By Paul KenyonINDIANAPOLIS _ Finding controversy has been difficult thus far at Super Bowl XLVI, so much so that any difference of opinion between the teams draws interest. Nate Solder, Matt Light Under Huge Pressure to Hold Off Giants' Relentless Defensive Ends

The easiest way to sound smart when talking about football -- and the best way to get people who really know football to roll their eyes at you -- is to harp on the importance of protecting the quarterback. The Giants plan to put pressure on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, which will elicit a "duh" from just about every reader. Next to "establish the run game,"...

Brandon Spikes is glad Bill Belichick looked past his 40 time

Brandon Spikes was a two-time first-team All-American at Florida and figured he was sure to be a first-round draft pick. But Spikes ended up lasting until late in the second round before the Patriots took him 62nd overall. Spikes blames his fall on his 40-yard dash time, and he credits Bill Belichick for being the…

Job seems to suit Spikes

Brandon Spikes made a bold fashion statement when he donned a dazzling pink-striped suit during the Patriots’ Super Bowl send-off last Sunday at Gillette Stadium. But the Patriots’ second-year linebacker from the University of Florida is hoping to help make an even bigger statement with his play against the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
