It took three weeks and almost 150 minutes of football, but a winner was finally declared in the 10-quarter-long grudge match between the St Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers. And Jeff Fisher's Rams, bloodied and wearied after this heavyweight battle more than went the distance, have their clenched fists up in the air after a 16-13 decision. This was no knockout, but after having our team laid out flat on the canvas time and time again in this rivalry - a rivalry in name only until this season - a tie feels almost like a win, and a win feels almost trophy worthy. Rams fans can hold their heads up a little higher now, holders of all the bragging rights in the division right now despite a 5-6-1 record that has us all but eliminated from playoff consideration.  Hell. Playoffs? Who said anything about playoffs?  We might be talking about them early and often next season, if the team's current trajectory continues on its current path. Jeff Fisher is putting his stamp...

Rams edge 49ers 16-13 in overtime

Jeff Fisher apologized for predicting an entirely different game after the St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers went to overtime for the second time in three weeks. No apology necessary after the Rams bounded off the field in a mood to celebrate instead of tying again. ''Wow,'' Fisher said after rookie Greg Zuerlein kicked a 54-yard field goal with 26 seconds...

The mad, mad world of Jim Harbaugh – and why he’s right

I don’t think there was ever a question there. I think it’s just a lot of gobble gobble turkey. Just gobble, gobble, gobble turkey from jive turkey gobblers … that paints a pretty good picture. He’s a very confident guy. - Jim Harbaugh on Alex Smith’s confidence. On the same day he declined to publicly name a starting quarterback, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh informed incumbent...

Injury sidelines Rams' Amendola against 49ers

The St. Louis Rams faced San Francisco on Sunday without wide receiver Danny Amendola. Amendola was declared inactive before the game by the Rams because of a foot injury. After sitting out of practice during the week, there was hope that he would play against the 49ers after a walking boot was removed Friday. Amendola missed most of last Sunday's win over Arizona and was...

Rams focus on Bills and not slim playoff hopes

(Eds: Updates with quotes, details. With AP Photos.) The word ''playoffs'' isn't being mentioned often around the St. Louis Rams' training facility unless asked by an outsider. ''This team is focused on Buffalo. It's our next opponent,'' coach Jeff Fisher said Monday at his weekly media gathering at Rams Park. ''There's too...

Jim Harbaugh's hot hand could be getting cold

Jim Harbaugh got caught up in the moment, now he has no way out. Quarterback controversies are tricky situations that don't need fuel to further ignite them. Harbaugh got so giddy over Colin Kaepernick, he literally handed him the starting quarterback position. However, after losing to St. Louis, he may realize that he may have rushed the very decision he created, and thus put...

Jim Harbaugh confirms he’s sticking with Colin Kaepernick

After Sunday’s loss to the Rams, 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh claimed tha the would be sticking Colin Kaepernick as his starting quarterback. Today Harbaugh confirmed that Kaepernick is the starter going forward. Harbaugh confirmed Colin Kaepernick will start Sunday against the Dolphins. — San Francisco 49ers (@49ers) December 3, 2012 Kaepernick didn’t play a great game,...

Amendola not active for Rams vs. 49ers

Danny Amendola, the St. Louis Rams' leading receiver, is not active against the San Francisco 49ers with a right heel and foot injury. Amendola has not practiced the last two weeks but played in a limited role last week, getting seven snaps and catching one pass for 38 yards in a victory at Arizona. Rookie Chris Givens starts at wide receiver Sunday in place of Amendola. Rams...

That’s what the San Fransisco 49ers get for being greedy

Alex Smith (Photo credit: Wikipedia) Now if you have listened to my show at all in the last two weeks on the BTR Network (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/letstalknfl), you know exactly where I am about to go.  The whole benching Alex Smith this late in the season for basically a rookie is just asinine.  Now I am not an Alex Smith fan by any means, but common sense is common sense...

Danny Amendola Remains Doubtful

Rams receiver Danny Amendola (heel) didn't practice Friday but was finally out of the walking boot. He's still doubtful for Sunday's game against the 49ers, but will try it out in warmups.Fantasy Spin:Amendola was considered highly unlikely to play last Sunday morning but ended up starting against the Cardinals. Unfortunately, he lasted about seven plays. We wouldn'...

Kaepernick still 49ers starting QB

Colin Kaepernick will continue starting at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, coach Jim Harbaugh announced Monday. Kaepernick started his third straight game for the 49ers on Sunday but questions arose after the 16-13 overtime loss to the St. Louis Rams. Harbaugh decided to stay with Kaepernick after watching film of the game in which Kaepernick completed 21 of 32 passes...

49ers vs. Rams: Thumbs up and thumbs down

Which way does the thumb turn for the 49ers after their 16-13 overtime loss at St. Louis on Sunday, including David Akers missing again in the clutch, a dagger through the heart of the NFC West leaders, a ridiculous pitch with victory at hand, Colin Kaepernick’s keen escapability, Dashon Goldson not thinking on his feet, classic Aldon Smith, Ted Ginn just not the same and much...

49ers lose to Rams 16-13 in overtime

Colin Kaepernick blamed himself after losing for the first time as the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback. It appears he will not be losing his job. After the St. Louis Rams avoided a second tie with San Francisco with a 16-13 overtime victory on Sunday, coach Jim Harbaugh indicated he'd be sticking with Kaepernick next week at home against the Dolphins. ''...

49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Says He's Sticking With QB Colin Kaepernick

It appears Jim Harbaugh is staying with Colin Kaepernick despite his uneven performance against the Rams. The 49ers and Kaepernick, who finished was 21 of 32 for 208 yards, failed to adjust to the Rams in the second half and also failed to stay in bounds at the end of regulation, which allowed the Rams enough time to go down the field for the tying score. Kaepernick also air...

Cruddy Show: Rams and 49ers rematch will be a war

The St. Louis Rams and San Francisco 49ers are set to square off in a rematch of the tie game they played just three weeks ago in Northern California. Last time around, the Rams shocked everyone by sticking it to the 49ers and had multiple chances to beat the leaders of the NFC West. The 49ers will be looking for some revenge Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome. The guys from the...
