Football and Futbol:
As we know, preseason games are usually meaningless efforts for the most part, but here are a few questions, and key areas to focus on:
1: Return Battle: Mariani, Reynaud…Battle?
With the new(ish) kick return rules changing the nature of the return game, the Titans have a difficult decision on their hands, with two guys that are legit and capable returners in the NFL, and a new guy itching to earn a spot on the team. Mariani has a quality 2011 effort, but was sidelined by injury in 2012. Darius Reynaud had a solid year, with 1600 yards returning both kicks and punts in 2012. However, an already difficult decision has been made even more difficult by the play of Jackie Battle, who stood out with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. All three of these guys are talented, but if one guy has a great game compared to the others, he’ll set himself apart in terms of being able to make the team. Unfortunately, in all likely scenarios, only two of the three will be able to make the team, and the Titans risk running into the same mistake when they cut Legarrette Blount in 2010, only to see him have the most rushing yards by a rookie that year.
2: Secondary vs. Andy Dalton
While Andy Dalton won’t have a ton of playing time in this game, it will be a tough test for the Titans secondary, and a good chance to see how well they can fare against a up and coming quarterback. The Titans had a pass defense that was in the bottom half of the league last year, and since RGIII didn’t play last week, this is the first starting qb they get a chance to see.
3: Chance Wormack
Offensive line is a key area for the Titans this year, maybe the most vital to whether they improve this season or not. The addition of Wormack adds another layer of depth and strength to the line. Last week, he had a key block that led to a touchdown for CJ2K, but also got beat and gave up a sack. His growth and development will be a key for the Titans finding the playoffs this year.
4: Can Jake Locker get the ball downfield?
Last week, Locker struggled with throwing passes of any sort of length. The Titans have to be able to use their wide receivers to get the ball downfield to stretch out the defense and give CJ some support, and take a guy out of the box. If they can’t do it now, it’ll be another long season for Titans fans.
5: Effort and Energy
One of the main complaints Titans fans have had of the team in recent years is that the energy just doesn’t seem to be there for the Titans. After a disappointing finish last week, can the Titans maintain the effort and energy for all 60 minutes against the Bengals, or will they pack it up for the fourth quarter again?

The Tennessee Titans signed Delanie Walker to a four year, $17.5 million contract in the offseason. Walker, however, missed his sixteenth training camp practice last week after undergoing knee surgery last month.
Walker could return to practice as early as next week, which is obviously what the Titans are hoping for.
“I am the missing piece of the puzzle, so not being able to jell...
Delanie Walker says he heard about the car crash that left two people dead. What he didn't know until he stepped off a plane in San Francisco was that it involved family members he'd hugged only hours earlier at a team party after the Super Bowl.
He didn't want to believe it until his mother told him his uncle's police badge had been found in the fiery wreckage....
Titans tight end Delanie Walker has passed his physical and been removed from the physically unable to perform list.
The Titans announced Walker had been cleared Monday before practice.
Walker was signed as a free agent this offseason from San Francisco to replace Jared Cook, who left for St. Louis. Walker had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after the Titans wrapped up its...
We continue our trip around the Tennessee Titans position by position as we approach the 2013 regular season with a look at the defensive ends.
One thing approximately everybody who follows the Titans in any capacity can agree with is that the two starting defensive ends played entirely too much in 2012. One of those players managed a pretty good season, or at least a very encouraging...

We continue our trip around the Tennessee Titans position by position as we approach the 2013 regular season with a look at the cornerbacks.
I covered this more extensively in Football Outsiders Almanac 2013 than I have on here, but in some ways the play of the cornerbacks in 2012 was in the eye of the beholder. By Football Outsiders numbers, the Titans pass defense was only...
After a subpar 6-10 record in 2012, the Tennessee Titans will look to improve in 2013. Through free agency and the draft, the Titans filled needs in the offensive line, defensive line, safety, and wide receiver. The defense really can not be any worse, after surrendering 471 points (29.4 per game) in 2012. Gregg Williams returns to the NFL from suspension to work alongside coordinator...
1. Jake Locker to struggle earlyLets face it, Locker isn't what you call "Top-Notch" and facing a top pass defense, and having to rely on the run against a Bengals defense? Doesn't spell out impressive game to me. I believe Locker will go 4-13, 31 yards, 1 INT before sitting the rest of the game.2. Chris Johnson to break a big oneChris Johnson is a top 3 runningback...
In about the least important thing that happened in the game, the Tennessee Titans lost the the Cincinnati Bengals 27-19 at Paul Brown Stadium. Missed field goals helped make the scoreline less flattering to the Titans than it should have been, but once again the first-team defense struggled against the opposing first-string offense.
1. Jake Locker actually played...
