The San Francisco 49ers have been darlings of the NFC since they benched started Alex Smith in favor of second-year passer Colin Kaepernick. Despite a loss to St Louis, Kaepenick has looked strong both passing and running the ball and has inspired the 49ers' offense. And of course the defense is just as good, if not better, as last year. For a team that just barely missed going to the Super Bowl last year, it seems logical that they will be the team to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this year. However, I don't think this will be the case and here's why.

Moss: Kaepernick first QB to give me dislocated finger

Randy Moss has played 14 seasons in the NFL, but until Kaepernick started throwing him passes, he'd never dislocated a finger.

Facing Pats, 49ers looking to step up offensively

Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers are looking forward to matching up with Tom Brady and the prolific offense of the New England Patriots on Sunday night. It may be more a matter of keeping up. After breakout performances in Kaepernick's first two NFL starts, the San Francisco offense lacked rhythm and punch the past two weeks as the 49ers lost in overtime to the...

Randy Moss: Colin Kaepernick throws so hard he dislocated my finger

Colin Kaepernick had made a lot of plays with his legs for the San Francisco 49ers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he can’t throw. Not only has he completed more than 67% of his passes this season, but Kaepernick is also capable of putting some zip on the ball and sticking it into tight spots. Randy Moss said that is the reason he recently suffered the first dislocated finger...

Niners need offense to keep pace with Pats

Stoically stone-faced and tight-lipped as is his style, Colin Kaepernick showed little emotion and gave concise answers Wednesday regarding the 49ers’ impending showdown with the New England Patriots. Kaepernick will have a lot more to say with his play when he gets on the field Sunday, and how San Francisco’s starting QB and the offense he directs performs that night could determine...

Brady, like Kaepernick, once replaced injured QB

Tom Brady was in a similar position 11 years ago to the spot Colin Kaepernick is in now. Both were second-year quarterbacks replacing successful veterans. On Sunday night, Brady leads the New England Patriots against Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers in a matchup of division leaders. The Patriots (10-3) have clinched the AFC East title, while the 49ers (9-3-1) can lock up the...

San Francisco 49ers Handle Miami Dolphins: Five Things We Learned

The San Francisco 49ers used their smashmouth style of play, capitalized on Miami mistakes, and treated their fans to a 27-13 home victory in Candlestick Park. It was a close game through most of the first half, but in the second half the Niners pulled away. The dagger was a Colin Kaepernick 50 yard scamper up the sideline on a read option play that had the Dolphins completely fooled...

49ers move to 9-3-1 with win over Dolphins

The 49ers improved to 9-3-1 and still keep distance ahead of Seattle and the No.2 seed. However if the offense doesn’t get together and be more consistent, it will be hard to keep that No.2 spot, let alone win the West. Colin Kaepernick finished the day 18 of 23 for 183 and no touchdowns or interceptions. It was very Alexesque, that is until he scored a touchdown on a 50 yard run...

Kaepernick's TD run keys 49ers' victory

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers were clinging to a 20-13 lead late in the fourth quarter Sunday against Miami when they called a read-option run, a play quarterback Colin Kaepernick could run in his sleep. Kaepernick, who rushed for 4,112 yards and 59 touchdowns in college for Nevada, faked a handoff on third-and-five to running back Frank Gore, pulled the ball back and...

Kaepernick following same path as Brady at QB

Are there any similarities between the way Tom Brady got his job as starting quarterback of the New England Patriots back in 2001 and the way Colin Kaepernick took over as the Niners’ starting QB this season? You bet there is. And everybody knows what has happened for Brady and the Patriots since then. Does a similar destiny await Kaepernick and the 49ers?

Randy Moss says Kaepernick gave him his first dislocated finger

As San Francisco 49ers receiver Randy Moss prepares to take on his old team the New England Patriots, he took time to give his young QB Colin Kaepernick a little confidence boost. “Man, he dislocated my finger,” Moss said, via CSNBayArea.com. “He had to put one them Randy Johnson fastballs on me. When it hit my finger, I felt my finger pop — dislocated it.

Gore, Kaepernick lead 49ers past Dolphins 27-13

Frank Gore made his way through San Francisco's winning locker room and offered a public shoutout to linebacker and NFL sacks leader Aldon Smith. ''Couple more, baby! Couple more, baby!'' Gore hollered. Gore is taking charge on the 49ers offense, with Smith wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks for the defense. Gore ran for a 1-yard touchdown and reached...

49ers-Patriots Preview

In his second season, Tom Brady led the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl victory after taking over as the starting quarterback during the year. Colin Kaepernick is hoping to pull off the same feat with the San Francisco 49ers. Brady leads the Patriots' top-ranked offense on Sunday night when they host Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers' No. 1 scoring defense in...

49ers 27, Dolphins 13

SAN FRANCISCO -- Quarterback Colin Kaepernick passed for 185 yards and ran for a 50-yard touchdown with 2:10 remaining, lifting the San Francisco 49ers to a 27-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Candlestick Park. The 49ers improved to 9-3-1, while the Dolphins fell to 5-8, losing for the fifth time in their past six games. Frank Gore rushed for his 50th career touchdown...
