Today, during one of the rookie mini-camps, 1st round pick Fletcher Cox received harsh words from defensive coordinator Juan Castillo. Now, a lot of people are saying that the words where unacceptable and where completely out of line. Also, some fans of other teams think that the coach was being too harsh, and it’s only Cox’s 2nd day at camp, so why are the harsh words?
If you ask me, these coaches are doing exaclty what the need to do! Get on these players rear-end and teach them that being disciplined will pay off in the future-it’s often the key to winning football games. If you don’t believe me, just ask former Eagles defensive end Juqua Parker vs the Buffalo Bills last year when he decided to jump off-sides on a 4th & 1, that cost the Eagles the football game.
This is what the Eagles need as I previously stated. We need someone that is not going to take these players lightly if they screw up. You think just because your a 1st round pick, that you can get off easy and not have to deal with any real consequences if you screw up? Think again! As previously preached before in my video vlogs, get on these players rear-end if they screw up. Even if it’s a tiny mistake, it s can be the difference between a win and a loss in today’s NFL.
Defensive line coach Jim Wasburn also got in on the action by also getting at Fletcher Cox and letting him know how he felt about why Cox wasn’t hustling on a play. Wasburn and Castillo means well, but you have to get at the NFL players if they screw up. This game is played by the inches, and an inch to much can be the difference between a win and a loss.
Some might argue that the reason he’s being more aggressive, is because now Castillo job is on the line this year. Could this be true? No one knows. All we do know, is the fact that Cox messed up, and he’s going to hear it from the coaches every time. Fletcher knows what he has to do to get things done, so I’m quite sure he will get it down right next time he steps out onto the field.
