Found July 24, 2012 on Philly Sports Nut:

Fans, it looks like the rookie Fletcher Cox will open up his career as the starter in 2012. The Philadelphia Eagles have decided to shut down DT Mike Patterson, meaning he will not participate in training camp and has no timetable for return.

Every Eagle fan remembers last year when Patterson suffered a stroke and was hospitalized, diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation and given surgery to recover. According to Eagles trainer Rick Burkholder, Patterson is still not ready to return to football. It was believed he would recover from his brain AVM surgery after six months of rehab, ”but he’s not” and “it could be a couple (more) months.”

The Eagles did comment on the situation stating it would not be career-ending, but a slower than anticipated recovery from brain surgery is an obvious long-term concern. With Fletcher Cox ready for his time as a pro, this certainly points towards a new face on the line for the Eagles. Cox was drafted 12th overall by the Eagles in the 2012 NFL Draft and looks to be a promising player in the NFL. With his size and speed, Cox can be the last piece to the puzzle of perfection on the defensive line.

With training camp underway already and Cox at the front of the battle, you can bet he’ll line up with the crew on opening day.

Hopefully, Mike Patterson will have a healthy recovery and can continue his life normally sooner than later.

LeSean McCoy, Like Michael Vick, Crazy in Thinking Eagles Can Become a Dynasty

They must have put something in the water down in Philadelphia, because the Eagles are dishing out some crazy talk. According to a few of my friends the Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Contenders… apparently Mike Vick and Andy Reid not only thinks that but they are “building a dynasty”. Since opening that statement, Vick was asked to clarify those statements even further. “That’s just me speaking in confidence, and if you ask my teammates, they’d tell you the same thing,...

Vick Still a Top Five QB

Vick will get his. And...

Mike Patterson's Recovery Opens Door for Fletcher Cox

As the twelfth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is being counted on to contribute to the Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘wide nine’ defense fairly early in his career.   With the news today coming out of training camp concerning Mike Patterson, incumbent starter at tackle, Cox’s contributions may need to come earlier.   Patterson, the first round pick...

Former Broncos RB Travis Henry Aiming For Comeback

Travis Henry is now hoping to do what Michael Vick and Plaxico Burress have done before him - return to professional football after a stay in prison.
