Donte Whitner, the former Buffalo Bills safety, knows all to well what losing to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots feels like.

According to SFGate.com, Whitner suggested the Bills’ problems went beyond their personnel when asked about Buffalo’s mindset after its 52-28 loss to the Patriots last week.

“Their backs are against the wall, knowing those guys,” said Whitner, who will face his former team Sunday at Candlestick Park. “They’re always going to want to go out there and work hard and want to do the right things, but sometimes it doesn’t go that way. Sometimes it’s bigger than just the players on the football field. I say that because a lot of guys go out there and pour their heart into it and you never win.… Read more

49ers cornerback: Jets quit on Sunday

Carlos Rogers believes the Jets quit during the team's blowout loss to San Francisco, adding that the Jets defense looked like it "didn’t want to be out there."

Brandon Jacobs ready to go for the 49ers

San Francisco 49ers running back Brandon Jacobs looks like he’s ready to make his season debut this week after being out since the preseason with a knee injury. “I’m ready to play, it’s all gone now.” According to Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle, Jacobs “was running 60-yard dashes full bore on Tuesday in triple-degree heat.”  This is certainly a sign that...

Buffalo Bills to stay out west; Gailey consulted with Harbaugh

Before making his decision to stay out west for the two-game road trip, Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey consulted with someone who has been there, and done that. That person is this week's opposing head coach, Jim Harbaugh. “San Francisco’s done it the last couple of years,” Gailey said. ”I talked with Harbaugh, and he thought there were some real positives in...

The good, the bad and the ugly for the Buffalo Bills

In order to avoid writing a thousand cogent words about the travesty that was Week 4 at Ralph Wilson Stadium, I beefed up on my western films. Mainly my favorite: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. It’s a common favorite, I realize, but it does have the single best climactic duel in cinematic history. Plus it has a seriously motivating soundtrack. I feel like I could draw a pistol...

NFL First Quarter Report Card: San Francisco 49ers

It has been another great start for the San Francisco 49ers, and they should be poised for another playoff run. While San Francisco was upset in Week 3 by the Minnesota Vikings, they bounced back in a big way in Week 4, in a dominating win over the New York Jets. While the 49ers will never rank amongst the elite when it comes to passing, they are one of the toughest teams to stop...

49ers' Carlos Rogers says Jets defense quit

Carlos Rogers, the San Francisco 49ers cornerback who returned Santonio Holmes' fumble 51 yards for a touchdown, had a theory why his team crushed the New York Jets 34-0 on Sunday.  Rogers thinks Gang Green's defense packed it in early. "It kinda seemed like, after a while they just, I know, looking at their defense, they didn't want to be out there," Rogers...

Rex Ryan says his defense didn’t quit on Sunday

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers told the media on Tuesday that he felt like the <a href=""I think when you look at it, certainly we didn't play well, it's obvious we didn't play well to his standards, either," Ryan said. "I think we have a reputation in this league as being a tremendous defense and we didn't play that way. As far...

49ers giving other teams new things to think about

Greg Roman is giving the rest of the NFL something extra to think about it when it's time to play the San Francisco 49ers. Roman doesn't like to call them trick plays, but the offensive coordinator's creative play selection last week sparked the 49ers to their most productive performance of the season during a 34-0 rout of the New York Jets. Mixing in a collection of...

Bills DT Williams fined by NFL for roughing Brady

Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Kyle Williams is questioning why he's been fined $15,000 by the NFL for a roughing the passer penalty against New England's Tom Brady. Williams revealed on Wednesday that he had been fined for a play that happened in the third quarter of a 52-28 loss to the Patriots on Sunday. Williams was flagged after he was knocked to the turf and his arm...

Carlos Rogers thinks Jets quit

One of the worst defensive performances in Rex Ryan’s coaching career turned even worse Tuesday night, when San Francisco 49ers cornerback Carlos Rogers accused the New York Jets of quitting late in Sunday’s 34-0 blowout. “Yeah, you could see it happening,” Rogers told SiriusXM NFL Radio. “It kind of shocked me because a lot of guys on (our) sideline were saying, ‘They...

Chick Fight: Clash of the Fans

Just when you thought the East Coast -West Coast battle ended with Tupac and Biggie, then came this week’s Chick Fight. In one corner, a die-hard female football fan with loads of “California Love” for her San Francisco 49ers. In the other corner, a Buffalo Bills believer who thinks QB Ryan Fitzpatrick “loves it when she calls him Big Poppa!” What never officially got...

The bye weeks begin: finding a week 5 fill in QB.

I’m responding to an email inquiry, in advance of the Thursday game again this week. With bye weeks starting this week (yes, we had a ‘mini bye’ last week) owners are faced with some difficult add/drop decisions for the first time this season. In an attempt to solve some of the problems, we’ll take a [...]

Week 5 Staff Predictions: 49ers vs. Bills

Jason: 35 - 10, 49ers:  Why couldn't the Ryder Cup have been this Sunday instead?  This one has the potential to enter into the pantheon of All-Time Bills Road Game Debacles.  Anticipating at least one San Francisco return for a TD, either defense or kick teams. Give the points. Frank:  38-16, 49ers: If Buffalo is serious about showing folks they're legitimate...
