Many speculated if former Buccaneers defensive tackle Warren Sapp would be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Today, the speculation ends as Sapp has been voted into Canton. “This is a proud day for the Buccaneers organization and Bucs fans everywhere,” said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Bryan Glazer via the team’s press release. “Warren played the game with incredible ability and passion. He was a leader on one of the best defenses in NFL history and helped to redefine the defensive tackle position. It is a fitting honor that he will be recognized as one of the greatest to ever play, and we could not be happier for him.” Sapp, (6-2, 300), was drafted in the first round (12th overall) by the Buccaneers in the 1995 NFL Draft. He played nine years for Tampa Bay, playing in 140 games and starting 130, while also starting in nine postseason contests with the team and helping lead them to the 2002 Super Bowl Championship. Sapp holds the Buccaneers’ single-season sack record, recording 16.5 sacks in 2000.His 96.5 career sacks rank as the second-most by an interior lineman in NFL history.
