David Garrard is setting the record straight. The free-agent quarterback lashed out Saturday at reports he is not interested in returning to the NFL right now because he doesn't have the desire to compete on a weekly basis.Garrard said he doesn't appreciate the speculation, and that he felt compelled to speak out in order to "protect my name."Garrard acknowledged that he was approached by the Miami Dolphins shortly after being released by the Jacksonville Jaguars in early September, but said he wasn't being considered for the starting quarterback role. The Dolphins told him he would play behind starter Chad Henne, who suffered a season-ending shoulder injury last week. With the Dolphins scrambling for a backup to Matt Moore, Garrard declined. The Dolphins opted to sign Sage Rosenfels instead. The 33-year-old Garrard says he isn't against returning to the NFL in some capacity, but is waiting for the right opportunity.
