Giants' Darius Slayton listed as trade target for Saints ahead of deadline

At least one NFL insider believes the 5-1 New York Giants could be sellers ahead of the Nov. 1 trade deadline.

For a piece published Tuesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that "rival executives wouldn't be surprised" if first-year Giants general manager Joe Schoen attempted to obtain an asset for the future by trading wide receiver Darius Slayton.

"The Giants cut his salary to $965,000 after failing to trade him before the season, and he has some pedigree as a former 50-catch guy," Fowler noted about Slayton. "The New Orleans Saints looked into his market in the past and could again."

Slayton was mentioned as a potential trade or cut candidate during the preseason, and the Giants reportedly received calls regarding the 25-year-old in the final year of his contract before he accepted his reduced salary. Thus far, he's accumulated just eight catches for 108 yards this season.

Of course, the problem with the Giants potentially shopping Slayton is that they need all the help they can get in the passing attack if they're serious about remaining surprise playoff contenders through December. ESPN stats show "Big Blue" is 31st in passing yards per game (154.3), and big-money free-agent acquisition Kenny Golladay and second-year pro Kadarius Toney have thus far largely been non-factors.

Golladay's reported four-year deal worth up to $72 million that he signed in 2021 essentially makes him untradeable this fall, and injury setbacks have sidelined Toney for all but two games this season.
